Great victory but... Coyle...not good enough Cooper...not good enough Grimes...not good enough Doukara...not good enough Antonsson...not good enough The criteria is the ability to play for an automatic promotion side on a weekly basis, which is the side we aspire to be. Add Dave and Murphy and that's 7 new players needed to have a squad good enough to compete for promotion. The question for Monk and Cellino is do you need a squad with quality running all the way through or just sprinkle a little stardust into the team with the addition of 1 or 2 players who are superior to the good ones that we already have.
He's getting better to be fair. Jesus can't believe I left Mowatt off that list...show's how invisible he is these days.
Grimes is improving, a lot more neat and tidy in his play than we saw previously, which is not much to be fair as he only played the one game. He lacks the pace and mobility to be top drawer so falls into the not quite category. Difference is O'Kane and Jansson came in and after 10 minutes you knew they were quality.
Lifecheshirewhite thought Grimes had a poor match as did my mate, I have only seen one maybe two people praise him yesterday. Nothing against Billy but he pointed out three good things Grimes did yesterday, not bad for 120 minutes and ignoring that penalty
What's everyones views on Mowatt ? Wouldn't bother me if we didn't offer him another contract. If we could have somehow enlisted the help of Dr Frankenstein and merged Aidy White with Mowatt during their academy days then we would have had one hell of a player. I know it's a harsh view as he's technically very good but I'm sick of not being at the top end of this division and we should have no room for passengers if we want to get where we need to be.
Mowatt = shyte needs offloading as hes had enough chances at playing 10 and failed every time. If last night was his best for a while it aint good enough. Grimes was pretty good and will be very good soon. Coyle was strong and played well and Cooper was almost as good as Bartley and he covered well for Ponts. So as 3rd choice C/H hes a credit. Sorry Jammy but dont know what match you were at, unless you expect Zlatan.
I agree Coyle had a solid match. He's nowhere near the level of Ayling and Beradi though, so for now he's not good enough to play week in week out for a promotion chasing side. Cooper had a shocking first twenty or so but did improve. He was however out of position or failed to challenge for both goals conceded. He's our back up as you say, we won't be keeping clean sheets though if he's called upon.
Sorry forgot to mention Grimes. Hope you're right about him as I like his football brain. I don't think he lacks ability just he's one paced. Notice how O'Kane can skip away from trouble or pop a pass off and then move and get it back. Vieira has that capability and that's why he's such an exciting prospect.
Mowatt - I wouldn't care if we released him on a free transfer, Grimes, I haven't seen enough of him to make a fair opinion but from what I have seen I am not impressed. I remember when we signed him going over a few comments on a Swansea City forum, not one of them rated him but then they didn't rate Bartley either so what do they know.
Agree about Coyle, and considering Cooper was our best centre half last season, shows how much better we are this season because he's a level below Bartley.
It was a great win and it's fantastic to be on a cup run but it's probably hard to judge the players, we made eight changes and so did they. A better guide to where we are is when we meet them in the league game and when they have to step in when injuries and suspensions occur.
They did make changes, but very close to the side who beat a strong Everton in the previous round and don't forget Naysmith is a £8.5 million pound player.
