Usually, it's straight after the Weds night fixtures so I assume it's the same this time. SPOILER ALERT - we're away to some insurmountable that makes the run nigh on pointless
Liverpool or Arsenal at home would be the best result. If we get hammered by Diame & the geordie ****wits, it's not a good thing, tws would be good progression but if we lose, we'll be ****ed!
That would the only excuse for such a lack of effort, it'll be interesting to see if it was an injury.
Marshall is our first choice keeper and he's currently our league game keeper. If people want Jak starting on Saturday they're calling for Marshall to be dropped, on the back of an excellent performance, when he's done nothing wrong in any of his games, and despite saying Jak shouldn't have been dropped because he did nothing wrong (apart from the time he did, immediately before he was dropped, but that obviously doesn't count).

HDM player ratings... Eldin Jakupovic Back in the starting XI for the first time since being ousted by David Marshall and untested throughout the opening 45 minutes. A first major save kept out O'Dowda and then he was even better to thwart Tomlin. 7 Harry Maguire A night to remember as he scored his first goal in City colours when breaking the deadlock with a simple header. Largely comfortable on the right side of a back three, promoting his claims for a chance at Watford. 7 Michael Dawson City's skipper was asked to go again following his weekend return and came up trumps with the all-important second goal after the interval. The Tigers' defence looks a more convincing unit with the experienced captain back. 7 Curtis Davies Booked for a clumsy challenge late in the first half but he was otherwise a dependable figure on the left edge of City's defence. A role familiar to him and he produced a number of telling blocks to keep the home team out. 7 Ahmed Elmohamady Given less defensive duties in a preferred wing-back role and stepped up from his recent unflattering displays. A more dangerous attacking force than Tymon but tucked back in as Bristol City came on strong late in the day. 6 Josh Tymon Only a fourth senior appearance and first since August but he could be content with his efforts at left wing-back. Smart positional play helped shore up defence and one timely tackle on Little showed his big potential. 6 Ryan Mason A deep corner teed up Maguire to open the scoring and then he repeated the trick to set up Dawson's header from another set-piece. Showed much more in possession than previous outings for City. 7 Jake Livermore (starman) A much improved performance in midfield as he stamped his authority on his hosts. Forceful and composed, he was the key figure in City's improvements. Much more like the Livermore of old in an encouraging display. 8 Markus Henriksen Floated in and out of the contest from the right edge of a midfield three. Little wrong with his performance, linking up play nicely enough, but struggled to press his claims in the same way as a number of team-mates. 6 Adama Diomande Recalled following his recent bright cameos and proved to be a handful alongside Hernandez in attack. Missed a big chance to make it 3-0 but played in a lovely pass for Hernandez to come close late on. 6 Abel Hernandez A first start since the defeat to Liverpool and looked eager to make up for lost time. Unlucky when a shot from distance clattered the crossbar and then when denied with a goal-line clearance. Did everything but score. 8 Subs: Tom Huddlestone (for Mason 79) Helped City to ease their way through the closing stages. 6 David Meyler (for Herrnandez 89) Wound down the clock with a late cameo. 6 Subs not used: Dusan Kuciak, Sam Clucas, Shaun Maloney, James Weir, Jarrod Bowen http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/hull...9840786-detail/story.html#BxJlLI4Iey10EpXL.99
Based on this seasons performances both keepers are on par with one another. The only reason Jak got dropped and Marshall is in the team is because one of them cost £5 million and the other one didn't. I see no reason to drop Marshall in favour of Jak just as I saw no reason to drop Jak in favour of Marshall in the first place.
When Marshall signed he was on the bench for several games because Jak, at the time our incumbent keeper, and the team had been doing well, no reason to change. However, Marshall is a goalie of proven pedigree, so he was inevitably going to get in before long, just like Mason was too. Jak lasted three or four more games because a mistake wasn't made. As soon as he threw a clanger against Arsenal he was out. For a keeper it only takes one error to cost the team a match and you can't complain if you get dropped after making a howler. I can't see Marshall being dropped now until he does something similar, and even then I don't think it'll be instant because at the back of the management team's minds is the fact that Marshall is just a better keeper. It's like the Myhill and Duke situation of a few years ago. If Myhill had a wobble Duke would get the occasional run but it never lasted long because Myhill was just undisputably better.
Marshall isn't indisputaby better than Jak though is he PLT ? Based on games played for us he is no better and in some aspects he is worse I expect Marshall to be paying on saturday though , he seems to be first choice based on price tag
If anyone really thinks teams are picked based on price tags they're mental. Jakupovic is flavour of the month with fans, I get that. But Phelan won't care, neither would Bruce if he was here. Everything Jakupovic does is getting blown out of proportion absurdly while Marshall is being blamed for defeat despite playing well. Fact is Jak had nowt to do last night until the last few minutes when he made a couple of good saves. Excellent. Marshall made a few very good saves on Saturday so where's all the fuss about how brilliant he is? The fact he played really well against Stoke seems to be completely ignored because JAKUPOVIC 4 ENGLAND!!!1! When Jak doesn't get picked on Saturday there'll be uproar and people will desribe it as 'unforgivable' like they did about dropping Hernandez. Then if we lose it'll be all Marshall's fault no matter how he plays.
