So 5 of the 8 quarter finalists are now known... Liverpool Arsenal Newcastle Hull Leeds Wide open with a decent draw. Hopefully can add us, United & West Ham tomorrow. Come on Saints!!
Solution! They all pick up minor knocks during the game against Chelsea and have to withdraw from their respective national squads. Other clubs do this (re Liverpool and Sturridge) so what is good enough for Liverpool is good enough for Saints.
Could Newcastle get to Wembley? I do object to the winners of this competition getting a place in the EL competition because it will then deprive a team finished 6th of a place in the EL. It doesn't make sense to have the cup winners of the two domestic cup competitions in the EL at the expense of the teams finishing 5th and 6th!!

Mixed feelings for this one. With Arsenal, Liverpool and one of Manchester still in the draw I don't think we'll win this competition so I wouldn't mind seeing us knocked out and concentrate on PL and EL. However, the other part of me knows we can beat anyone on our day and if the draw is kind enough we may only have to play one, if any, of those teams. It's a tough one, but I don't think I'll come out of tomorrow's game too disappointed either way.
Our fixture list means we will likely have to play a youngish team again in the next round so it will be difficult to get through the next two rounds imo It's a competition which has bought nothing but disappointment to me over the years and I've learned not to get excited about being in the last 16 or quarters..still a long way to go.
Can't believe I've just read this. Come on then everybody, what's the point in football anymore, let's all go home. Jeez, in any competition you are going to have to come up against the big teams at some point, and in the League Cup they often put out weaker teams (at least until the semis), so absolutely everyone is there for the taking. And if I'm not mistaken, we beat ALL of the big teams last season. Bobby Stokes will be turning in his grave at the thought of a Saints fan not fancying his/her chances against a bigger team. We're not **** anymore, man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wake up!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed...a home draw against Newcastle, Hull or Leeds should give us the opportunity to get into the semis and utilise the youngsters again. We can do this.....Wembley!!!!!!!!
I try to look at this in a positive way - its a great opportunity to play the younger players, with a mix of experience, and a win like that has an extra confidence boost and feel-good across the squad as a whole, whereas a defeat is not an 'end of the world' prospect. Lets win with some of the youngsters and let them have another 'tilt of the lance' in the next round too.
This is to make the competitions interesting....it has always been this way. It may be us that gets in the Europa by winning a cup or knocked out by a cup winner when we are in 6th...have to accept the rules that are in place. It wasn't that long ago that 6th got nothing anyway.
Hi FLT - how are you doing? I felt like a little 'waxing lyrical' today for reasons unknown to myself - putting it down to my indifference to work today...
