Agree with that team bar Hesketh who's injured. I'd drop Boufal back and play Redmond. Also think we'll see Hojgberg rather than Clasie.
Tiredness and injuries are beginning to kick in....especially with Chelsea on the horizon, but I agree it will be a shame to throw this opportunity away.
We really need another CB to partner Yoshida. I worry about vvd/fonte playing so many games. Will gardos ever be back?
Unless their injured I would be surprised to not see Olomola, Stephens, Sims and Reed not feature in some capacity on Wednesday after not being involved tonight
If the point of this thread is for us all to give reasoned and well-informed opinions on who might play on Wednesday then I'm afraid I'm going to fail My only contribution is to say that we have so many options that I'm excited to see the Saints 3rd XI and thinking we have a good chance of winning this when in previous seasons our 2nd XI has been a bit lacking and assisted our earlyish exit from this competition. Now we're in Dorch we don't see any Yoof games but going by McQueen's performances I'm hoping some of them can hit a similar standard. Last week it was Italian Pizza and a visit to the San Siro (I was concerned Mrs S might pass out with joy last Thursday !!!) this week its Pizza Express and Sunderland in the Milk Cup (or whatever its called) Gotta say we're having fun either way
If Sunderland do their usual thing and just park the bus and rely on breakaways it could be a bloody boring game. They are our bogey team as far as cup games are concerned are they not? So chances are they will indeed park the bus in the hope of taking us back to Sunderland. As with so many games we have to play they know that a trip to Sunderland will not be what we want. They will hope we are exhausted and would stand a better chance against us.
I still consider them a bogey side. The eight was just a very unusual (glorious) day. I reckon they will cause us more trouble than what people are thinking.
Disagree, we are loving Europe and this is the easiest way back in, plus a day out at Wembley and first real silverware for 41 years, let's us play quite a strong side
Were any of you guys fans back in the 80's when there was 1 sub, 42 games plus Europe, those guys seemed to manage .okay, we finished 2 in 84. Liverpool won title after title with about 14 players, but we seem to pander to the fashionable view of burn out. Vvd is an absolute thoroughbred, he should always play, he is the heartbeat of our team, I struggle to think of a more influential player in the last 20 Years
I was around then, but I also appreciate that the game today is a million times* more intense. * I may have exaggerated
