Very interesting rumour today: Liverpool scouting experienced goalkeepers recently. This is not about Karius though Weidenfeller, Ochoa, Adler and Carriso are 4 names that have been mentioned as possibilities to come in to replace Alex Manninger at #LFC Ochoa has been a keeper that the committee have liked previously from a few seasons back
I think Migs is off or Manninger is retiring/moving into a coaching role. Given that Karius and Ward are both young, we would need some experience on the bench.
Weidenfeller - never get the ball past him. I agree that this isn't about Karius - even though he's giving me palpitations, I do think Klopp intends to persevere with him. I'm not sure whether Mignolet will be off any time soon, but I thought Manninger was bought with the idea of moving into coaching so we do need another.
If Mig doesn't play much rest of season he'll be off in summer. He's already making noise about not wanting to just sit on the bench so reckon he'll be requesting a move

Absolutely... and if he doesn't do it in next 9 months do we think he'll hang around another year.. especially when at the end of next year it's WC year. Sitting on the bench won't help him and he's 28.. he should be playing first team football every week.
Only scenario that Mings stays is.. Karius is dropped after having a shocking run of games. Mings comes in and morphs into Buffon.. In reality, I expect him to be gone in the summer..
Thing is, if we're a team that is serious about challenging for the title in the next few years, we need back-up of his quality or better. Personally I have no idea why players who are good enough to start for slightly lower teams are content to spend most of their careers on the bench of a top team, but quite a few do. I know the cynics say it's money, but I think there's more to it than that. So far, Karius is an unknown quantity, and despite some of the unquestioning optimism on here, we don't know how he'll turn out. If he comes good, then Mig might see his future elsewhere. If Karius continues with his shaky start, Mignolet might think he has a chance of getting his place back. As for the WC, Mignolet is only ever going to be back-up to Courtois, and I'd have thought that place is fairly secure for the moment, though I admit I don't know who else is in the running.
And if Courtois gets injured? I'm sure a Mig would rather have been playing all year so is ready than been on bench whole year and be over taken by someone else. I agree we we need two quality keepers, but having 2 keepers in their prime isn't how any top club work. Even Barca couldn't keep two happy and had to shift one on. Chelsea couldn't do it with Cech. Most back ups are slightly older and have never played for big club, thinking Vorm, Begovic, Cabelerro etc
Well that's the definition of back-up, isn't it? Yeah, I'm sure Mignolet wants to be playing. Like I said, we'll have to see what happens. If Karius comes good then there won't be many opportunities for him so he should leave - at the moment I think he might be looking at Karius' uncertain start and thinking he's still in with a chance. Just as an aside, I was always surprised that Cudicini was happy to be back-up, of course I didn't watch him all the time, but he always seemed too good to be a bench-warmer to me.
look manninger really is only a quick fix but the point is if ward isn't coming back to take up a role then that says he's not up to it. We will see with mingolet cos frankly i'd not sit long watching karius flap about and not get back in.
If i was mignolet i would be livid too if karius on current form kept me out. Karius seems like a downgrade so far on Mignolet. Don't think i've seen such a flapper before and he's probably even worse with his feet.
begovic is only 29!!! Its about who's willing and capable to go the job not about giving some ould fella a pay day. vorm is only 33... thats not old for a keeper IMO its thier prime. The fact is LFC have always been pretty poor with keeper depth. I remember in the past mike hooper sitting about for years, tony warner, a pletora of ****e like aphexaud and carson and kirkland etc etc. we get someone and we stick with them. Some guys will come cos its a big break for them, like i'm sure begovic and vorm say their bigs moves as. I am pretty sure if you said to say a marshall for example when they were in championship... fancy this bench role here and a few cup games for treble your wage he's have jumped at it at the time. So my view is strongly thatt its not about age its about the opportunity being offered. don't give a pay day to anyone, give someone an opportunity to step up.
Karius's start has been very underwhelming and we expect better. It may take him a month or a year to develop. He's a very good young goal keeper. And no thanks to Mignolet - there's a reason why we signed a replacement for him, 3-4 years of mediocrity. I still feel we need to addres the defence first and foremost - a LB and LCB should be high priority.
which part is wrong? I've only watched his last 2 matches but he's providing lots of excitement when hes on the ball or when a cross comes in as i can expect something surprising to happen. Mignolet is pretty similar but he has gotten much better at punching the ball and at least clearing it properly although it's clear that he isn't good enough for a title challenging team. Karius on the other hand passed the ball straight to pogba but luckily ibra is old and lazy and didnt get back on side. He also proceeded in that game to flap the ball onto ibras head and just generally looks like a rabbit in headlights. Even against brom all thoses crosses weren't claimed by karius and surprise surprise another set piece goal goes in. His distribution has been no better than Mingers. That's not to say he can't improve, but on show so far he's been more useless than minger. At least minger provides a wonder save every now and again
To be fair, Karius has been very shaky, especially when it comes to crosses. Don't agree about his ability on the ball. He's far superior to Migs who couldn't control a ball let alone kick it. And he's not really had a chance to make any saves.
Give Karius time before we judge. Can anyone recall de Gea's first season? There was a point in the game against WBA that I thought 'that's why he's being given a chance'....ball played back to him and he played an inch perfect ball into the channel for Milner to run onto. From backpass to attack in one pass. We've needed exactly that for an age now.
