It isn't just us. Though other police forces don't go to the lengths to track fans down and get them banned for letting off a flare as ours does. Only City fans, whether it is home and away. Away fans at the KC, or the Rovers fans who let about half a dozen at the biggest Derby in the universe a couple of seasons back don't seem to end up attracting the attention of our Plod.
Stop dreaming of the impossible. Come up with something new, like filling those empty seats with kids. Get the ridiculous cost of watching the game down. Get realistic or get nothing.
It's not a "fun idea", it's ****ing excruciating, and if you honestly can't see that you're either brainwashed or ****ing stupid. Jesus ****ing wept.
Organise pin the tail on the donkey, colouring competitions, hide and seek. Some fans say the words to songs being displayed are fun and kids love it. All those things I mentioned are fun and should get the kids flocking to the KC. Whether it will improve the atmosphere is another thing.
Of course to get kids in you need an adult as unaccompanied kids aren't let in. I, and many others, started going to football on our own at an age when it would not be allowed nowadays. So, we also have to find a way of attracting adults as well. I don't think lyrics on screens will do the trick though.
Lyrics on advertising boards will do absolutely **** all, except piss more long time fans off. Getting the cost of attending down will go a very long way. My point is, we have a lot of empty seats. Even if I had paid for a pass, I want the best for our club and filling those seats with asses would be better than not, however we do it. Oh ****... We really need rid of these Allams.
It is all part of the ADI Powering Fan Engagement and you can tell the knockers from other clubs to watch out as it's coming to loads of stadiums. One side of the LED has the adverts on and the other is used to message to the support. The chants are not aimed at adults. But they are part of the overall lighting and information system.
People who spout about things like Powering Fan Engagement are the same as those who instead of mentioning nightlife go on about the Night Time Economy, describe spaces as The Public Realm and shoppers as Footfall. They should be shot for murdering the language. Phrases like to message the support should carry some sort of cruel and inhuman punishment.
When new owners come in, expect even more stuff like this. Every club will be doing this stuff soon and if the support will not do it for themselves, clubs will orchestrate it for them. Flashing coloured LEDs instead of flags, piped chants and shouting, just watch as it all gets rolled out. Fun fun fun for everyone, eh.
The answer is simple: we all go dressed as our seat for the next game. It'll be completely effective.
The club seem to try so hard with these things and just seem perplexed when we don't like it. The result, I suppose, of having no football people at the club. At the same time, they seem to actively take steps to reduce the atmosphere. When the teams come out, instead of the tried and tested formula of playing a bit of music while reading the City team out, they had Steve Jordan reading both teams out with a backdrop of absolute silence from the tannoy. Doing both teams gives away fans an opportunity to cheer for their players while on the pitch, and then boo ours. Most clubs do the away team before they're on the pitch and make it all about the home team at kickoff time. We used to do that and it was even discussed at an FWG meeting at one point and they said they wouldn't change to reading both out because it gives the away fans impetus. If they want to make an atmosphere, stop pissing about with little gimmicks like this, fill the seats, make the fans happy. Facilitate an atmosphere, don't try to fake one.
I don't disagree with this. I know that you and some others on this forum wanted to take an active part in improving the atmosphere in the stadium. I can guess why it did not work, but that is pure speculation on my part, I know nothing for certain. Effectively the club had a desire to improve the atmosphere in the KC and to that end they took control. The manufacturing of an atmosphere simply does not work unless, you already have the crowd buoyed up for it. The lights, flags and LED display are all an attempt to create an atmosphere, but it is like dragging a horse to water. As for the reading out of the teams, something different has to be done.
Do you thinks these fans would care if the words went around the ground on the advertising boards? Do you think they would be embarrassed? I don't. They don't wait for permission to do it, they don't wait until more young people do it, they couldn't care less whether the club approves or not. There is enough of them concentrated in that part of the ground to do what they want. The north stand is our kop, it is where the vast majority of our singers are. If you want to improve the atmosphere you have to make a noise, even when we are losing and playing badly. There are plenty of empty seats in the north for people who want to stand and sing to move into. Unlike previous seasons when we were close to selling out this season there is nothing stopping people moving into the North and making a noise. Improving the atmosphere is our responsibility, no one else's.
The local newspapers for an away side writes an article like that, mocking us and making us look ridiculous, and you don't find it embarrassing?! Jebus...

I think wider societal factors play a big role here, CC. Despite the problems with austerity and relative poverty in the UK, ours is still a wealthy society, where most people still have lots of different options when it comes to what they decide is important in life. In poorer countries this isn't always the case. To supporters of Boca Juniors or River Plate, their football club IS everything to them, and often presents them with the only opportunity to celebrate life. By and large, I believe rampant consumerism has 'bought' people's passions here, and - effectively - placated and numbed them.
Here is a game when they are away at their local rivals Aris. Funny to see. The head of the security applauding the fans and encouraging them. How many died from the fumes, had asthma attacks, were crushed in the stampede to avoid the conflagration caused nynthese flares? Oh, none. Both those stadium hold about the same as the KC. No roof on either, the poor acoustics of the roof (except the bits where away fans stood previously and now stand)is apparently what stops the KC being a cauldron of noise. Reason I have always been interested in Aris is I used to work with a bloke from Thessaloniki who supported Aris. He came to a game at the KC with a few of us about 2006 and said he couldn't believe the lack of atmosphere (we thought it had been OK) compared to their stadium. .
