I think some of the Leeds fans who were posting on here have some words to eat, predicting 3-0 for their "unstoppable" attack! Fairly comprehensive victory, good performances all round, shame about the penalty, couldn't really tell whether it was after 3 replays, not sure why the linesman was so confident, but we more than deserved 3-1.
Shame to concede at the end. But a great result, performance and start to season, despite Leeds not being up much today
Ahhhhh, so that's the famous Leeds attack that gives everybody in the league a really tough time! Ripping through us with that, erm, penalty that was never a penalty. Yeah, really troubled our defence which included a guy who had only started 4 games before today! Dangerous Leeds
I was actually really glad Gradel scored the penalty because now I get the extra points for predicting the goalscorer in the prediction game!
WOW!! A superb performance. 3 mistakes. 1 by Martin that almost let them back in, 1 clearance by Kelvin and a howler from the linesman. We outplayed a strong team. Early days, but, wow, what a start. COYS
One of the unluckiest 3-1 defeats I've ever seen. We dominated terratorialy in the first half and dominated the second full stop aswell as all 3 goals coming against the run of play. The referee was, no other term for it, ****ng useless, we should have had 2 more penalties, half the fouls he gave against Leeds seemed to simply be given because a Southampton player stumbled aswell as a yellow card for Lonergan for pointing out that Chaplow should have been booked for diving like Tom Daley. Positives to take from it from our point of view, Clayton was MotM by a country mile, Lonergan looked good and none of the goals were his fault, also O'Dea looked very good and if you'd watched the game with the goals cut out you could have easily thought we'd won 3-1. However that doesn't take away from Southamton's very good performance, they took their chances when we didn't, Snodgrass didn't look fully fit and Gradel didn't decide to perform until we were 3-0 down. Overall a game I feel we actually dominated slightly but Southampton got the rub of the green regarding refereeing decisions and managed to make the most of the big occasion. Well done Saints but I encourage my fellow Leeds fans to actually think about the game before weighing in with the mindless criticism.
Erm, yes. Cork brought Gradel down in the area, Cork stuck his leg out as Gradel was going after his knock down. Then Fonte was climbing all over Paynter a couple of minutes later.
Definitely. I feel we were better from box to box but in fairness to you you were far more clinical than us.
Cracking game, superb win, i'm buzzing! Shame about the penalty but 3 points in style - Cork man of the match for me, Lallana class as well - everyone had a great game to be fair. Come on you reds!
Enjoy your gloating lads, better team won today no doubt. Not all the sides you meet will be as generous as we were though, and against them you'll need to create a bit more than you did today. To be fair you were sitting on a lead so didn't really need to. Good luck for the season, I fancied you to do pretty well and i'm sure you will... its a funny league though... last year we did the double over qpr, outplayed norwich twice and let 6 in at home to preston... so don't count your promotional chickens just yet!
Wow, well what a result. We looked by far the better team from start to finish, everyone looked like they stepped up a level effortlessly except from maybe Martin who was improved in the 2nd half. The penalty was harsh, from the sky coverage it looked like it hit under his arm but either way it doesn't take too much away from a great performance, although I am a bit gutted for Kelvin Davis who deserved a clean sheet for a good performance. Cork looked comfortable in the centre of the park and the subs coming on Chaplow, Scheiderlin and de Ridder (who I hope gets a full 90 minutes against Torquay) show that we do have real strength in depth. Impressed with how clinical our finishing was today, great strikes for all 3 goals and it was great to see Connolly carrying on his pre-season form. Although Lambert was quiet he did well, doing what he does best taking down those long puts from defence/goalie and played a great ball for Lallanas goal. The fans were great, both Southampton ("you dirty stake bastards were coming for you!) never gets old and Leeds fans were still chanting right at the end. Anyway, overall glad we started the season on a win, lets not get carried away but look forward to the game on Tuesday and Barnsley next week and look for another 3 points. COYR!
simon , i hope that when youve finished spiiting your dummy out you can admit saints won fair and square, leeds will not lose every game this season this way
