Our home support is so ****ing ****, that's the embarrassment. The electronic signs just draw attention to this simple fact. Yesterday there were a couple of times when we almost reached respectability. Once in the first half when "come on cheer the boys" went on for 4 or 5 minutes non-stop. The second just before they scored their second when Hernandez was warming up and was greeted by "He came from Italy" which continued whilst they were celebrating. The first step in improving the atmosphere is to make sure the North Stand along the 6 yard box is full of people who want to stand and sing. There's plenty of space.
I'm not overly bothered by this, it's one of the least offensive things that has happened under the Allams and only clocks in as mildly irritating, I think. It's the way football is at the moment. Quiet crowds of people who can afford to go. Filey has it, reduce prices for younger people and I think that's the best chance you have of a better atmosphere. If you want it noisy, you need a riff raff element too, but I think they largely can't afford to go. Lower the prices, focus on Hull City AFC again to re-find that pride in the club, the badge & the city, and get more people who actually live in Hull through the turnstiles. City are only like most PL clubs now where most people who attend are a little more well-to-do and don't consider singing to be part of the experience. It's happening everywhere. It's either accepted that this is the way it is now, or we backtrack a little and make it more accessible for everyone again. Can't have it both ways.
You would love it then.Fun as well for the kids without screens to read lyrics on giving them which would have given them much joy and amusement.
They seem able to get a riffraff element ,as you call them, at plenty of other places. We are actually among the cheapest clubs on a match day ticket price list.
I used that term ironically. Prices are complex now though aren't they - maybe we have a small amount of cheap ones here and there, but as well know, it isn't cheap if you're young.
Haha, so do I and so can I. Many others can't though. Don't mind having a discussion with you if you're willing to cut out the insults.
I usually dip in and out of conversations and keep it brief. I apologise if you weren't being condescending but as I don't know you I thought it better to err on the abusive side.
Started one sentence then altered it and left in the original bit. But at least I have a keyboard with comma and apostrophe keys which work.
You can understand the problems in creating an atmosphere in a ground with a large gap between the crowd and the pitch, as shown by this lot. Mind you they don't have a roof so it is more difficult. Still, the game hasn't started yet, maybe they will liven up when it gets underway.
. If I see another post with a video of a football crowd from a completely different culture to our own... Do you really think we're ever going to do this?
Other countries were jealous of the vibrant crowds we had at one time. Their crowds were quiet in comparison. Fans from other countries used to be envious of the likes of Anfield, White Hart Lane and Old Trafford when their teams played there. The point still stands, the excuses we hear for lack of atmosphere, too far from the pitch, acoustics (even more strange given the lack of a roof on grounds where they generate a better atmosphere), no safe standing areas (the grounds I showed have no safe standing areas). The simple fact is it just needs people to open their mouths. In this country there aren't many who do nowadays, and City have fewer than most.
