Mourinho always tries to win everything that his side are in. He believes that it builds a winning mentality and his record suggests that he might have a point. Won it with Porto in it's old format, then won the Champions League the next season.
Southampton should have won that, but that's what happens in football. BTW The PL team was superior in the skills of the game they just failed to convert their chances.
The Europa suits this year's Man U to a T: manager good at tournaments and a squad with too many players and no chance at the PL.
It is a good response, and I've made the sort of blithe dismissal I tend to say is none too bright . So, to answer the question: Spurs and Arsenal have continuity, they finished 2-3 last year when the winner is out of the running, they've addressed their weaknesses to a considerable extent, have looked good so far overall and would be strong favorites if they didn't both have a history of not getting it done. Even so, I said before the season started they have the inside track and see no reason to change my mind. Liverpool have played the best football overall, perhaps, while Chelsea are clearly on the rebound and only a year removed from winning the title. I think it's a year too soon for Liverpool, and a year too late for Chelsea, but wouldn't call a win by either a shock. I'm not convinced by Man City and wasn't even when they were top of the league. I think they have too little quality defensively. I would also say that CIty, Chelsea and Man U would do very well to make a run at the title with a new manager. Actually winning it seems a step too far. Of the teams that I've mentioned, I do think Man U is the longest shot. I just don't see them as coherent enough this year, or able to score enough goals. Liverpool and City have gone on winning tears scoring freely, and I don't see Man U having the style to do that, even if they do have the players. I'd be surprised if they finished anything other than fourth or fifth, to tell you the truth. I can really see fourth, mostly because finishing out of the CL under Mourinho would make me happier than my sports juju tends to allow. Everton look like one of the safer bets for seventh in history, and so should finish sixth or fifth due to the collapse of one or two of the clubs mentioned earlier. Koeman is an excellent manager, but they specialize in flaky characters, with Barkley the flake in chief.
I hope Spurs emerge form this sequence of draws with a win and not a defeat. A win would see more wins as I think a defeat would se more defeats. We are unwittingly giving our rivals elbow room. Seriously don't know what to make of Crystal Palace.
Last match Bournemouth score 6 then nil and last match Arsenal score 6 and then nil. NO team has acquired absolute fluency this season and taking those two examples as indicators this season the matches will be impossible to predict.
If I were a manager of a lower half club, I would show my team the last 10-15 minutes of Boro Arsenal as the perfect example of what not to do. Time after time Boro kicked the ball straight at Arsenal rather than trying to do something themselves. The speed of their giving the ball away increased as time left decreased. In the end they got lucky, but if I were a Boro fan, I'd be livid. You can fail more bravely than that.
Boro got lucky? We got lucky. We should have lost that game, we were diabolical. They had exerted so much energy and focus throughout that in the last 15 minutes, they were probably exhausted. Especially as their manager didn't make any changes until the 80th minute. That Adama Traore looks like a real dangerous player. His game needs some refinement, but he absolutely terrorised our defence today. His speed and strength are incredible. Needs to work on the technical side of his game a little more, but if he progresses well, he'll end up at a top club soon.
Draws are all well and good, better than defeats,of course, but if a team wins two and loses two that's six points.Four draws brings only 4 points,so being unbeaten doesn't mean a lot.....so sort it out Spurs. As for Crystal Palace,I think their manager has had his 5 minutes and, maybe,it's time for him to move on. Talking about managers.Hull should have gone down on bended knees to keep Steve Bruce........
Liverpool top, (big deep sigh.) Spurs should have gone after Klopp because he's a higher profile than MP. But give the latter his due, Spurs are 4th and keeping pace so let's just emerge from this run of draws with a win because there's some very difficult matches around the corner.
