That's true in my experience, Bob - I bought a Netgear cos my provider's was crap. My problem is miles and miles of copper wire before it reaches my hovel.

Mine's going in next week. Opted for the 250 package so hopefully the speeds will match it.

It won't make any difference if Sky use the same copper phone lines.

It definitely does make a difference, I can speak from experience. I think some ISP's reserve space at the exchange so can provide a better service. When I was on BT before 6-10pm every day and most the day on a Sunday were basically non internet time, it was that ****ing slow I couldn't even watch a YouTube video. Switch to sky on advice of neighbours and I had solid steady speed 24/7, no drop outs, no slow periods.

It won't. But I may have unbroken service throughout the day.

Great. Thanks for that. It wasn't the main reason for moving.

It will do. The great thing about this technology is that they can give you whatever speed you want and its guaranteed. There's no 'up to' speeds and it doesn't matter how far you are from an exchange. In few years or decades when 250Mbps is considered nothing (which I'm sure it will eventually) they can just upgrade the kit on their end and crank it up. At that time, BT will have to start laying all the fibre that KCOM are laying now.

BT already do fibre to the premises. You're missing the biggest point of all though, KCOM = £50 with a usage cap. Sky fibre = £10 with no usage cap. Still fast enough for anyone even if it is only fibre to the exchange.

I seriously doubt anyone really provides unlimited broadband for £10 a month, let alone fibre. They may claim so by excluding 'line rental' and giving an introductory discount but in reality the cost is much more.

FTTP isn't just about speeds, it's effectively infinitely future proof and more importantly, it eliminates the vast, vast majority of faults like the ones people on this thread have described. That's the biggest issue with copper that people overlook. It simply isn't suitable to carry a Internet signal.

The faster Sky package is £25 per month after the discount expires.

It pisses me off when they advertise it without line rental. Unless I'm wrong, isn't it literally impossible to get it without the line rental? Therefore the shouldn't be allowed to advertise it as such.

Yep. I think there's an upcoming rule change where they're not allowed to do it any more.

I pay a tenner for Sky Fibre, and yes it's unlimited, there's no caps and no traffic shaping.

In the many years I've been with them, I've had 2 problems with my internet, and both times, I got really helpful support folks, one of which rang me every day to monitor the fix they'd done for me. They're light years ahead of the other ISPs in support, in my experience, and talking to mates who foolishly went with Virgin, BT, Talk Talk etc.

You're right, I also pay line rental, but I need that for the phone, and yes, it should be included, which I also believe it will be soon.

Copper isn't great I agree, but when you think about it, it's done a bloody marvelous job of hiding its unsuitability. Sooner FTTP is rolled out to everyone the better mind.

We've offered someone the No.2 job, but it's not Joyce, it's someone not currently at another club.
