Watched Bridge of Spies last night. If it wasn't for Tom Hanks I think it would have been a bit dull.

I thought it a bit dull with him.

Not sure what you were expecting with this film guys, based on true life events which at the time was a fraught period. America was very jittery after the Philby, Burgess, Maclean debacle then they had the Rosenbergs, Julius and Ethel, and the whole reds under the beds type of thing. The Russian's had been sending ballistic missiles to Cube but Kennedy put stop to that, and to top it all one of their most advanced spy planes ever fell into the hands of the Russian's, not just the plane but the camera's sophistication was something the Russian's didn't know about. It wasn't a 'James Bond' type thing but a slow process as at the time any American in Russia, or the Eastern Bloc, was a kidnap target so the Russian's could trade them back for as many Russian spies as the West had. I should think that there was some deviation from Hollywood with the story but in general it seems to me they did a good job. Maybe Jason Bourne is more to your liking but I have to say I remember many people said similar things about the BBC versions of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Smiley's People, both are now regarded as classics even though they were slow burners.

It was the more recent film version of TTSS that was awful.

Wasn't expecting a Jason Bourne or a James Bond but this was simply a story that I think shouldn't have been made into a film. It would be better read about. I've watched TTSP and SP many times now so I clearly like a 'slow-burner'. The difference between those two and Bridge of Spies was that the acting and production brought the Le Carré stories to life, Bridge of Spies came across (to me at least) as pedestrian and turgid.

This past week, I've watched The Purge 1, 2 & 3, Lights Out, Dirty Grandpa, Bad Neighbours 1 & 2 and X-Men: Apocalypse. First time I've see all of these films and enjoyed them all so far. X-Men was great! Recommend it if you're into those sorts of things and Logan looks really different but really good.

Power Rangers and Pirates of the Caribbean next year look decent. Look out for "A Monster Calls"; the book is incredible and the film has a great cast and decent trailer.

I watched 'Begin Again' the other day starring Mark Gruffalo and Keira Knightly, really cool little indie music-based film.
