As you can see, I have added that we appear to be equal. We have the same number of points in games involving Hapoel (i.e 1), the same GD (i.e. 0), and the same goals scored against Hapoel (i.e. 0), so think it must be alphabetical.
Anyone know anymore about strikes? Finding it hard to find concrete info! Good luck to everyone travelling home today...
Have to say I totally agree, especially in a group as tight as ours. As has now been shown, our 3-0 win vs Sparta is a fantastic result, yet we receive little to no benefit.
I don't have a problem with it as it is trying to decide between 2 equal teams by comparing head to head results. I doubt it will be alphabetical after 6 games....or at least, I hope not. If it does we should change our name to Aardvark Saints.
But why should that be a better system? Its how you approach all of the group games, why should it come down to a head to head. Is it a subtle step up for Man Utd or something even more sinister.
If in the unlikely event that we were tied with Hapoel on everything then we would have a play off match at a neutral venue I'd think. They wouldn't put any team through because of alphabetical order. Edit - I've just checked and it comes down to the coefficient system. Who has accumulated the higher total over the past 5 seasons - taking into account both the clubs and associations totals.
Sorry, that's still considered a better system than GD? Another fixture to shoe horn in, at a venue that would probably be Trukey? Glad my sense of humor is working this morning!!!
As a slight diversion I just wanted to add how good our kit looked last night. The red shorts really work and, from the front at least, we don't look like Liverpool.
Firstly, the Sour Beer in Milan is bloody great. Secondly, on reflection, I am coming away from the actual match, disappointed. What a chance that was to not only win at a European giant, but to stuff them. For the first 60 minutes Inter were shocking. Not sure how it came across on TV, but their players didn't seem arsed to run or cover or track back and Saints could knock it around under almost no pressure. Sadly, the two up front were very poor. If long is out injured, then that's no loss based upon his lack of performances this season so far. J-Rod... well, I will be kind and say he "worked hard". Had a bit of a "disagreement" with a fellow fan who kept spouting the "well, we were in league 1 5 years ago blah blah blah". When are we going to put that old chestnut to bed? It sounds very "tinpot" now. Will some be saying it in 10 years, 20 years? What's the cut off point where we actually live in the moment???? I find it a very negative thing to say. If the club is a "new force" in football and wanting to keep on growing, then not winning at Inter should be gutting and be almost angry we didn't. Not make soppy references to the past. So in summary, great trip, amazing stadium, good turnout of fans, disappointing team performance.
Definitely an opportunity missed...have to make sure we don't lose to Prague away. From our general performance in this tournament so far, it will be very disappointing not to get through from this group. We have to get those results.
Our recent history doesn't make us humble just morally superior Disappointing? They had 1 shot on target. Only our inability to get the ball in the net without the ref disallowing it could be said to be disappointing JWP MOTM?COYR
Yep, agreed as well. Although, sometimes the context is different. When I talk of 2009 and the struggles we faced, it makes me uncomfortable with some of the figures banded about in recent times. We should never forget how close we came to the end of the club, but also never put our ambition on hold because of the progression we have already made.
Can someone please clarify as I only saw it at full speed but was Jay's goal disallowed correctly? Vin
Someone else in the box is what the ref blew for, but god knows what as I saw nothing wrong. Poor Jay, can't catch a break at the mo.
