If they buy their advertising through Facebook UK aimed at UK consumers, then they pay the tax in the UK. Shouldn't be too difficult to administrate.

 

Facebook appears to be a global corporation. Its unclear who the advertising is aimed at. If I'm talking to family in the USA, for instance, who's advertising are we seeing?.

 

As I said, it depends on where the advertising is being hosted. If it's in the UK, then it's part of Facebook UK and would be a part of their accounts. If you were talking to somebody in the US, you would still be seeing Facebook ads based in your country of origin. Facebook has it's HQ in the US which serves the US and Canada and for the rest of the world, one based in Ireland (to avoid the corporation tax)

It should be fairly straightforward to tax a company like Facebook based on each country where the advertising or transaction originates from.

 

When backed into a corner, put everyone on ignore and search out a Daily Mail article.

I just see this trend towards global internet service based or social network businesses increasing, and getting more and more difficult to assess their tax liabilities and as to who they owe it to.
