Ah well. We march on. Terrific display let down by a handful of excellent saves, two goal line clearances, an unfortunate miss or two and our usual "one shot one goal" at the other end. Off to dance for a couple of hours. That'll help me get over it. Vin
If anything is clear, is that the board really should have put their hand in their pocket for another striker like so many of us said. Not just because of our ****e finishing, but the fact that Jay rod isn't fit or sharp. Long has got injured and Austin, whilst in brilliant form, simply can't manage to play 2 games each week which is fairly obvious. Hope we sort it out in January. Deserved to win that but oh well! We have 3 games left and are still in a decent position in the group!
Well that's a game that we should never have lost. Inter were ****e. This may not be popular, and of course it may not of made the difference, but what if Austin started? He's on it, and if we'd nodded one in who knows what.
That's especially true of away games in Europe, it seems. Inter might be a bit **** at the moment, but they've got tons of experience of this sort of thing. Some quality finishers in the side, too. They didn't look up to much though, did they? I'd expect you to win the home game.
Tbh, I thought Jay was showing signs of getting back. The problem is, Saints have got better since 2014 and he's looking out of his depth a bit.
Not read anything yet but disappointed. Was very sluggish in second half (particuarly first 15-20) though we still had chances. Inter were ****e really no wonder their attendances are poor if they play like that every week. Plenty of timewasting too. That short corner in stoppage time infuriated me. We looked dangerous from set pieces all night so why not whip it in during dying moments? Still very proud though and away support was fantastic, won't forget this for a very long time. Inter at home has suddenly become massive in terms of qualification. Up the ****ing Saints
We have to put our chances away...this will be the story of our season. Hard to score against us, but we need to score more ourselves. This isn't a new thing either. However, we are playing well and, if we do that, we will get our rewards. Proud of Saints...I still think we will get the results to take us through.
Okay, for me probably the first time that the rotation didn't do us any favours...but it's completely undeserved, and the ref was dreadful. It happens. It's football. It will happen again. Positives being we're a lot better than Inter Milan, and in his brief cameo Sophie looked like he may well have more than a little something about him though. We do need another striker. If it was FM17 you'd sell Long and Jay and buy another.
He hasn't got that direct pace that made defenders **** themselves he had before the injury. I hope it comes back, but I am thinking we should have loaned him out and got another in like we were looking to do.
Jay is in the team largely on the daint fumes of nostalgia at the moment. He was poor today. Not surprising, considering his injuries, but when we effectively play three up front it is essential we have lots of good back up. Good to see Boufal come in, though. He may fill that hole.
We lost that game in the final third; once again we are crying out for quality in terms of creativity in the forwards/attacking midfielders; lots of pretty passing around the middle third does not win you games. Hopefully Boufal can provide this. Thought the team played well overall; Long and Jay were probably our weakest today. Inter scored a great goal; we missed a hatful and could not overcome 10 players; again disappointing.
I'm not even as aggrieved by the disallowed goal as I am by the officiating of the small decisions. Managed to get even things like throw-ins consistently and comically wrong. Highlight was the linesman putting his flag in one hand to signal for a Saints throw-in, before hesitantly looking to the ref, who made no signal, and then switching the flag to his other hand and signalling for Inter. You'd expect Inter to look for some soft free-kicks and at times our boys were a bit naive but the ref bought it every time. And at one point Miranda practically went for a piggyback on JRod for nothing to be given. Ho hum. Maybe we didn't realise playing European giants meant not just coming up against said giants. Don't think we were flagrantly wasteful in general, but I can't believe Virgil hasn't scored. Twice now he's seemingly been undone by the sheer amount of time and space he's had. All to play for in the group now, two tough away games out of the way at least.
Actually, I'll extend on that. For a guy who's never played a match for Saints, Boufal was excellent at getting it to the right people. Vin
