Yes - so we will be bound by a law higher than ours as soon as we sign. Same as with the EU

Some people don't pay any tax, at least on a net basis. They have the same right as you to vote.

Are you a liverpool fan? <laugh>

Everyone pays Tax on most of the **** they buy, if a 10 year old goes to the shop and buys a Mars Bar, he is paying VAT on said Mars Bar.

Everyone pays tax in one form or another.

So basically when i say Tax payers money, I am referring to the people of the UK, all of them. I don't care if they are at a plus or minus in terms of net tax paid and what they have claimed.
They still pay tax on goods like fuel and alcohol, confectionary, their bank interest etc
"Tax payers money" is just an expression really, I didn't mean to suggest some form of elitism.

That's great. I think its a phrase invented by the right wing media to imply that there are spongers and taxpayers.

I think it's a phrase invented in the English language to indicate someone who pays tax :p

And spongers DO exist, the media didn't make them up......they still have every right to vote and I am not for one second suggesting they are the cause of the UK's problems, but there are people who could work, but choose not to......are you denying the existence of these people?

    Means testing isn't discriminatory

I'm fairly sure the reason they got legged with the child benefit issue, was that the original legislation here didn't state that in order to receive the benefit that your children had to be domiciled here. So a UK citizen who worked and paid tax here but his kids and wife were in say Ireland could still claim the child benefit.

Not all governments spend the money for the benefit of all of the people. Some spend everybody's money for the benefit of comparatively few.

But again, in a democracy, if a government does that, we can do something radical, like not re-elect them :D

Yes, but nevertheless, if actuaries had been more on the ball, they'd have seen what was coming.

Most UK pensions are heavily invested in Gilts, they supply the income stream to pay the pension payments. That was fine when rates were higher, but once they started dropping years ago, that income stream dried up. As the Gilts they held matured and had to be replaced by bonds with much lower coupons.
