Given our highest level of possession in the PL era was when LVG lost 1-0 to West Brom with 79%, I'd say Utd fans (and genuine football fans in general) give no ****s about a percentage number. It's what you do with it that counts, and we did as much with 35% as Liverpool did with 65%.
Yeah that's true - I expected Ibra to bury that chance, he was pretty crap throughout as was the non existent Sturridge. I may be wrong, but I'm not convinced the vast majority of United fans would put up with those tactics for too long a period. Previously United always attack in a big game and is one of the reasons they win most of them - because they're brave. Going to Liverpool for a draw is not something I associate Man Utd.
We definitely weren't going for a draw - the use of Rashford, Young and Valencia meant we were always looking to drag your pressers in and hit you on the counter. Great example of that with around 10 mins to go - we kept the ball, and made about 15 passes whilst you chased shadows. Your fans started getting antsy, which caused your midfield to over commit and Valencia was away down the right. Same with Ibrahimovic's chance - we kept our shape, you lost yours, Pogba got space to cross and Ibra should have done better. If anything, the limiting factor yesterday was Ibra - he's not a counter attacking striker and slowed us down as much as Rooney at times. If Martial or Mickey were fit then I think we've had seen a different line up with more pace. Tbh it wasn't much different from some of our performances at Anfield back in the day. Remember O'Shea and Tevez in two games back in 2007? Both smash and grabs after hard fought games and we could well have had another one last night. Also very similar to how we played at the Nou Camp in 2008 when we won the CL. I doubt fan will be happy with those tactics for too long a period, but then we haven't used those tactics for any long period. We were all over Leicester and Stoke in our last two games, so if anything the Liverpool match was a one off, designed to cope with a specific threat from a team in form, rather than the norm everyone seems to assume it will be.
This bus parking cliche is being overblown because Liverpool had us under the cosh for a very brief ten minute period in the second half. We were comfortably on top and in control of the whole first half without creating any real chances of note. We were not just defensive though, it's nonsense to suggest we were. It was disappointing to be less on the front foot second half, like Mourinho would have taken a point happily. It's not like we never set foot in the Liverpool half though, we had definite counter attacking opportunities to score, more defined than the first half if anything. We should, however, have had a real go at getting a winner as I believe we would have. We were too cautious second half. As Swarbs says, shame we didn't have Martial as an option to counter attack with pace, Zlat was too static. Hats off to Fellaini too, he did what was asked and for 70 minutes he was very good. Became a bit scary when he was on the ball towards the end though, he started to look like an accident waiting to happen as he tired. If anything this game showed me that far from being his best position, an advanced role for Pogba doesn't really suit him that much. We'd have been better with him alongside Herrera instead of Fellaini and Mata/Michy/Rooney advanced at 10. In my opinion of course.
Typical RS fan. Really proved my point about 2 short planks. Cannot read and understand such a simple statement. What did someone say about "opening his mouth and proved that he is an idiot "? Let me explain to a ******: LVG got sacked playing boring football despite having the highest possession in the premiership. We are hardly going to sack Mourinho for having low possesssion, are we?
We surely cannot expect the RS fans to understand that. If they had come here and got a point they would have been over the moon. It is also a matter of where the teams are and their form. The RS were supposed to be flying. Overwhelming favorites to whip United. A run of wins (albeit dodgy and lucky ones). They had to prove that it was not just luck especially at home. A win would have put them level at the top. United's form has been uncertain. Still working out their best formation and players. So which team will be happier with a point? 3 points would have been a bonus for United. A point stops the RS from going 6 points clear. For the RS their performance was just dreadful. At home when they were expected to put United under real pressure they just fluffed their audition. Henderson showed what a water carrier of a player he is. What yesterday showed was that even when the RS are playing at the top of their game they still cannot beat a United trying to work out their best formation. The only negative is that this draw has put some RS out of their title delusions.
Thought Jose would play the UNited way rather than the other way around? Fellaini, parking the bus and lowest possession since 2004 says otherwise. Your delusion that Jose will play exciting football just because he is United manager is scouse-esque
It is clear Maureen was ****ting it and rightly so, even with the good attacking players you have he didnt feel confident enough to go for it Wouldve blown up in his face though had Lallana and Winji been fit enough to start You were lucky that Sturridge was rubbish, once Lallana came on you could see a vast improvement. With our makeshift midfield against the worlds most expensive squad a draw isnt bad for us
When you watch Fords goals you can see majority are long shots, so nothing speculative about him shooting from long range
Loads of Ifs....as usual with the RS. If Sturridge wasn't rubbish, If Henderson had not had off day, If lalana was fit and playing, If Firmino was not so ****, If Winji had been fit, If Slippy G had not slipped they would have won the title easily.... On the other hand, if Pogba had not an off day, If Ibra had aimed his header properly, If If ....United would have deservedly won all the points. Kloppyflop said he was disappointed with the performance and with the point. Mourinho had it seemed achieved his minimum objective. He came for at least one point. 3 points would have been good but 1 is not bad. Klopp saw an appalling performance from his team who had been installed as second favourites for the title.
It still didn't constitute a really good chance. It was a really good shot, yes. Not what you'd call a clear cut, created, chance though.
But thats how he scores so to him/for us that is a decent chance that needed a good save Anyway, ****e game. Saying on our board there was a new barmaid in a nice little vest top though which made it all worthwhile
The referee had been bullied into favoring the RS. he booked our players for nonsense tackles yet refused to book the Rs for exactly the same ones. A point is a triumph when the ref was trying his best to give them everything. #silentanfield #kloppyflop disappointed.
And ye shall rejoice when you fluke a point at Anfield! Good God, how far have you fallen Chrissie? You going to the bus parade?
