Apologies now for random post! My wife and I have just fallen about laughing on a really random thing! Gino D'acampo has just advertised toothpaste and we joked that his career has plummeted from the dizzy heights of when he met us a few years ago!! We used to import Caribbean seasonings and sauces from my wife's family's business in Jamaica and sell them at U.K. Consumer shows. At one, Gino was the star attraction and before the gates opens to the public he went round and shook hands with all the stall holders, (or kissing the ladies, which the wife remembers well!!). Anyway the silly random thing that made us laugh tonight until we were crying is so silly, but I tried to convince him that he should take our Rum Barbecue Sauce and serve an Italian/Jamaican fusion by mixing it with his pasta.... I know. Means nothing to anyone else but she thought it mad that I tried to convince a great Italian chef to mix our Jamaican stuff with his!! *back to the wine*

We've stopped three or four years back. My number one dish was/is Curried Goat! My favourite product of ours was either Scotch Bonnet sauce or Boston Bay Jerk Seasoning (still the best Jerk I've ever tasted) for hot stuff and our chutneys were amazing for those not liking hot. A Tesco buyer told me our mango chutney was the best he'd ever tasted!! Personally I preferred our papaya chutney. I still have some old Jerk jars left (date has gone, but no Jerk ever goes off as it is a preservative) I'll send you one if you want to try it. Or father in law bought me some scotch bonnet sauce back this summer from Jamaica. You can have one of those if you want to try. Awesome stuff.
Tony Bellew won last night then called out David Haye... He also verbally abused fellow Briton Haye, the former WBA world heavyweight champion, who had been shouting instructions and supporting his friend and sparring partner Flores. Bellew then climbed through the ropes shouting "you're next". He addressed Haye in front of the Echo Arena crowd and continued taunting the 36-year-old, who previously fought at cruiserweight before stepping up to heavyweight. "Those two guys you just fought were a joke and you're robbing everybody who pays to come to the arena," Bellew said. "Listen, you predicted BJ was going to beat me, didn't you? You predicted he was going to beat me. He got smashed. And you're going to get smashed too. "You know what, with 10oz gloves on boy, I'll put you and that pathetic haircut to sleep. "Listen SpongeBob Squarepants, I'll deal with you in a boxing ring, you've got this big aura around yourself, I don't care."
My favourite knife has finally met its maker. It was the last of my mother's tea knives so was about 70 years old. It had a wobbly handle, burns from being heated to seal splits in plastic, and buckle ended from being used as a screwdriver and a lever. It had been used in the garden and the kitchen as it was so useful for everything....being sharper than most dinner knives and not part of a better set. It met its end as it would have wanted to do...being used to hack frozen chicken. Her like will never be seen again.
Ah yes, a good, trusted knife is a joy. I try to keep mine super sharp for cooking. Recently, a friend of mine asked me if I wanted a nice set of knives as she had been given a Prestige set by her daughter. The new set had a pair of scissors. Yes, quite nice. But not a patch on the quality of the Kitchen Devils she handed over. I hadn't the heart to mention anything, so I accepted. I've also got a half a dozen or so older knives [perhaps not quite in your Mum's category] and they are certainly made out of superior steel to most. Good spines and they keep an edge, so one is not forever sharpening them.
Marc Marquez is MotoGP World Champion for the 3rd time: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/motorsport/37670864 And MarK Cavendish is, at present, going for his Cycle Road World title. 21km to go: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/cycling/37376645
Mark Cavendish came 2nd in the overall Cycle World Championship. Today's race in Doha was won by Slovakian Peter Sagan giving him the World title for the 2nd time in his career. Two years ion the trot. Cavendish got slightly baulked and finished one bike length behind and came second today. If the positions had been reversed, Cavendish would have been Champion. It was all that close.
Tyson Gay's 15 year old daughter has been accidentally shot and killed in crossfire in a restaurant. An innocent life cut short. Guns are such wonderful things.
For Vin, Sandy (great to meet you again this afternoon and see you at Velmore tomorrow) and to shamelessly plug the charity-raising endeavours of the hardest working ukulele jam in Southampton (motto - a triumph of enthusiasm over ability)
