Sounds like a trip down memory lane for me. My first job was in Holborn in 1970 and I would hop on the tube for my lunch break and head to Oxford Circus where I could explore all the shops around that area. I bought my first album, the 'Easy Rider' soundtrack in HMV and my first single, 'Stay with me' by The Faces. It was great time to be into music with so many great bands producing what are now classic albums. The game really changed in 1972 when Virgin Records opened their first store after starting as a mail order company the previous year, this was in Oxford Street at the Tottenham Court Road end and it was equipped with wall booths that had headphones where you could listen to albums you might want to buy. I had never used headphones before so picked up a copy of 'Hawkwind' and put the headphones on, they were at full blast and this was an experience I will never forget as this track literally blew my mind...
The opening track from my very first album, the words are as relevant today as they were almost 50 years ago when this was written...
My first single and still one of my all-time favourites, although the words aren't politically correct for these days...
I downloaded this album recently, on recommendation..... I can't recommend it enough - a wonderful collection of great tracks. A bit lo-fi Strokes, with some Iggy Pop thrown in. Doesn't look like he's coming to the UK any time soon unfortunately, so here's a few tracks to wet your appetite.....
So many great tracks from both. Quo unfairly pigeon-holed, their album 'Dog of Two Head' is still one of my favourites from that era...
