not surprised - it was not ONLY dinosaurs that we smote - there were king sized elephants, huge mammoths, and great big flies to name but a sample of the creatures we faced in our perilous journey. Luckily I had a 3 year old to protect me "it's alright grandad I will get them"
Morning all. Off for a lunchtime appointment with my footie friends. Rather good that we have a decent discussion without getting too heated. Have a good day, and a few goals from the Hornets would be very welcome.
Good morning, Dave; good morning, all. Missed that Dave was away in sunny Sunderland - was a bit worried. The clocks are all out in the house as I set them from Weston-super-Mare Time. Anyway, he'll be a happy Canary on his return. We tend to do a weather check, don't we? Well a good Scot I used to know would get very arsey if the word 'dreich' was misapplied (usually by a sassenach), so it became great sport to do this. I could bait the hook for BB by saying today is dreich, but he's too far north to know I'm wrong. Anyway, the correct term for North Hertfordshire this morning is 'pish-oot'. How I long for a Scot to be allowed to do a BBC weather forecast using all their magnificent meteorological words. Have a good day, all, and COYH.
Aye-aye min, a bit o' wither blether! Did you know there are degrees of dreich - as in gye dreich? Or the marvellous word 'ding', although it's nae wye near eneuch caul for that aenoo. Sadly, Doric had no words to describe today's weather up here - blue skies and sunny, if a tad caul... I doubt the day will ever arrive that the BBC allow Scottish meteorological words - although when the SBC take over in the not too distant future...
Not really - it can be dreich without rain. It's more a case of grey & overcast with a bit of cool and wind thrown in for good measure. Where I live, gye dreich would imply rain as well.
Good end to a good day....my older daughter's excellent taste enabled us to end it with a double oaked Woodford Reserve bourbon accompanied by Monty Bojangles chocolate truffles. Getting older can be good....
I was only playing, BB. Gye dreich is new to me. How is 'gye' pronounced? As in 'Song for...' or 'Rubber Din...' ? I like the term schtucky, too, for a plaster cast. It so much more pleasurable and somehow more precise.
Good morning Andy, Sunderland was brilliant, good fun, good food and wonderful company, plus Norwich won and Huddersfield lost. A perfect weekend!
Guy, buy, rye, fly, sigh, die.... Funny thing the English language, with its multiple phoneme representations. Some other words that are common up here, and bring a smile to my face when I hear them, are ma dookers, ma oxters and ma moo... I'll leave you to puzzle over their meanings for a while.
Been perched atop ladders today painting, and am now covered with white freckles. Daughter has now changed her mind about getting into the house for Christmas. She is looking at the end of November . She has worked very hard, but having three children to look after as well does give her limited time. Still I am glad to help while I can. When I get old I might not be so willing or able.
