I needed to do a dummy run and then stick it out on the club account and I couldn't be bothered to log in to the dry-run account before doing it.

    You got me, though. :p

Newcastle United’s England Under-21 international Rolando Aarons has been arrested following a mass brawl in a trendy nightclub in the city.

Aarons was one of nine people arrested after police were called to a nightclub on Newcastle’s Quayside in the early hours of Sunday morning following reports of a large number of people fighting on the dancefloor.

Bruce is an excellent appointment for AV but has a real task ahead of him with a very poor fragmented squad who are used to performing badly but getting paid Premiership wages
If he can get control of Grelish he has a chance of success because the lad is very talented

Good appointment. However, it wouldn't surprise me if they drop. If they had anything positive there at Aston Villa they wouldn't be languishing at the bottom of the table. To paraphrase Pardew, there's a losing mentality at AV. Already, it may be too late for Bruce to turn that particular juggernaut around. Some clubs seem to have to go through a great big dive before they come back. Some never do. I suspect Villa will but it may not be for a while yet.

The police accounts of the Russian violence at he Euro's in France is scary. Saw the interview on BBC

One cop said he had never seen anything like it in 20yrs of policing football games. On one night the French police told him there was 5 English fans in critical condition. One English fan had their achilles tendons sliced so he couldn't get up and run away, so they could beat him some more. They then left him on the floor to die allowing a second wave of Russian thugs to come in and do some more damage.

He also said don't go to Russia as they have no chance of protecting you.

Always seemed a dodgy conviction to me. Gut instinct is that the right decision has been reached here.

Also her life has already probably been ruined to an extent, but so has his. No real winners here.

I think the only reason he got off is there wasn't enough evidence to call it rape. Which in many rape cases is the same sadly.

Rape cases need a massive change for the alleged victim and the alleged accused. So many rape cases are thrown out for lack of evidence, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I think the reason he 'got off' is because he didn't rape her.

Agree with the general thought behind your post though. I also think that there should be stricter sentences for women who are proven to lie about it.*

*I'm not for one second saying that's what happenned here, just a general point.

I also think that in these sorts of cases both alleged victim & defendant should have anonyminity(sp?) until case is concluded.

So, in an effort to extinguish at least some of the stupid, herewith 10 myths we can squash at the outset:

    1. So Ched Evans has been proved innocent, right?

Wrong. You’d be forgiven for thinking this, given that it was in the prepared statement read out by his solicitor, but Ched Evans has not “demonstrated his innocence”. That is not how our criminal justice system operates. It is not a means by which the truth of a situation or event is conclusively and fully determined. Rather the jury are asked one simply question – are you sure that the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt (or, as juries are commonly instructed, so that you are sure)? “Not guilty” means just that. The jury were not sure that he was guilty. They may have decided that he was totally, utterly innocent, but we don’t know. All we know is that they considered the evidence, and were less than sure of his guilt. As I tell juries in every closing speech – if you think the defendant probably did it, he’s still not guilty.

    2. Well at the very least, the verdict means that the complainant has lied, surely?

No. Absolutely not. A not guilty verdict in most cases is insufficient to safely infer that the jury have concluded that a complainant lied (as opposed to the jury not being sure one way or the other), but in this case the facts suggest the opposite. As the Court of Appeal made clear in its judgment allowing the appeal, X has never asserted that she was raped. She has always simply maintained that she had no memory of what happened. It was the prosecution case – the case theory of the Crown Prosecution Service – that she was raped. The defence case was based not on the “usual” he said/ she said dispute over consent, but rather he said/ she can’t remember. There is absolutely no safe basis for suggesting she has lied, or, to quell the more hysterical calls, that she should be prosecuted on the basis of Evans’ acquittal.

More on the website, some pretty disturbing stuff:

This girl (who we have to remember has not said she was raped, but has no memory of the event) has already been subjected to the most vile abuse after Evans was found guilty and will now have her life made a complete misery. I'm not suggesting that should affect the jury who have made their decision in good faith, but I do feel for her as she has been subjected to a lot of misogynistic abuse from knuckle draggers.
