One of my favourite bands. A warm, sunny, summer's day and the sound of the Spoonful drifting over you. Unbeatable.Takes you straight back to 1966, the World Cup one of the best years ever to be young.
You Didn't Have To Be So Nice was a favourite of mine. Such simple but evocative lyrics. "It's like trying to tell a stranger about rock and roll". Is a great line. I used to watch Welcome Back, Kotter just to listen to John Sebastian singing the theme song. Always dreamed of being approached and asked "For today's star prize of...(insert dream holiday, fancy car or whatever) how many guitar pickers are there in Nasville?" and informing an astounded questioner that there were 1,352. And for a bonus prize would he like to know how many mothers tthere were?
My girlfriend's friend gave me "Darling Be Home Soon" when she left Hull for New York. I had "Spoonful" and "Summer In The City" already. (****in'ell - I could easily cry as I think of those times )
