I think whenever something like this is discussed, some people's views are rather excessively swayed by not wanting to appear racist, and assuming that other people's views are built on racism. I guess it's what some on here call 'lefties' or liberals. Personally I'd definitely consider myself much more left than right in terms of politics. I don't mind Corbyn. But I agree with Castro and City Man on this issue. Some people seem to think that if you don't support the taking in of refugees then you must be a massive racist. There are clear arguments against it, but some people just dismiss it as 'terk our jobs' extremism which it really isn't.

I've yet to see anyone explain why they need to be in the UK. Why would anyone travel so far for so long after reaching safety. It's absolutely bizarre. There has to be some reason for it.

When there was a debate about whether or not to start airstrikes on ISIS targets in Syria, a lot of people seemed to completely misunderstand the scenario. People say things like 'bombing their country' as if 'we' are just flying in there, bombing the whole gaff and coming home. Some people even seem to think it's Britain vs Syria at war, and that the refugees are homeless and desperate because of Britain. That's absurd. Our airstrikes have been targeted at the fanatical ****wits trying to commit unthinkable atrocities against these people.

I think Castro has a point when he jokes about certain posters having a low opinion of their country. It seems to be the trendy thing sometimes to be anti-ourselves or anti-US.

Of course Stanners, I was just referring to Sterling's point in which he offered support to & tried to justify the barbaric slaughter of whales by comparing it to the fishing industry.

Not even a stupid mammal like a sheep or a cow. A very intelligent and aware mammal with a deep understanding.

It is extremely hypocritical to support the mass murder of a species for economic gain yet criticise those opposed to taking in and supporting economic migrants.

Sterling knows this though. Despite not being the brightest, he's not that dim. I'm 99% certain he's just stringing everyone along for a bit of fun and games.

That isn't the point at issue. Instead of remaining in a squalid camp in France and be put up in comfort by the French authorities whilst his papers are processed for him to enter legally. Why does he have to stay in squalor and risk his life? He supposedly took 9 months getting there, what is another couple of months?

Nothing to you or the Tory government it seems.

It is the point at issue though. It was his story that moved Lily Allen to tears.

I'm on the left, far-left in fact. Orwell loathed the anti-English left in this country and I agree with him. My opposition is to the state as an entity but I'm fascinated by English history. I'm critical of the US but admire the likes of Thomas Paine and his vision of what the US should have been. When people say they're ashamed to be British, I think they more likely mean they're ashamed of who runs Britain. Their anger is misguided. If Lily Allen said she apologises for the British government's actions or inaction, I don't think most people would care. It's the fact she rather stupidly apologised on behalf of England and the English. She's let her emotions and her gob run wild.

She apologised for the English destroying his country. He says he is, with more accuracy than that dimwit, that he is grateful to the British military.

Your last two sentences are on the nail. Though to risk being political there are different things going on here. The lad who upset her is from Afghanistan and it wasn't this government who took us into there. Syria, yes.

What is political about saying she inaccurately apologised on behalf of the English people whilst he said he was grateful to the British military? Doesn't she think there any Welsh, Scots or NI folk in the armed forces?
No mention of politics or political parties there.

Back to the topic - I think it's quite clear the lass was in an emotional state, it was a daft thing to say but I don't see any need to make a fuss about it.
