Here's an idea that'll save the FA 3 million a year. Don't bother with a manager. They're pointless anyway. As Sam said let Rooney pick the team as he has the most experience anyway
oh come on, you say Iceland beating England in a winner-take-all game at a major tournament was an upset, but not so ... you actually make the point perfectly by stating Holland being done in the qualifiers, Iceland finishing above the cup winners at the tournament to get through to the knock-outs, and now competing well in the WC games ... so Iceland have been consistently good for a while now, proving they are in fact better than England at this moment here's more ... upsets at major tournaments don't just happen ... England went to the Euros with their 23 BEST PLAYERS, they had preparation and planning, and by the time they played Iceland they had already been battle hardened in tournament football ... they put their BEST TEAM on the pitch, but couldn't cope with Iceland's clear game plan and desire to win ... this was not a one-off cup game on a cold Tuesday night on a bumpy pitch with good players rested, this was a major tournament that was well planned for in advance with the BEST PLAYERS available ... Iceland 2-1 England was no fluke, it was simply a confirmation that England's national team is sliding into oblivion and there seems to be nothing on the horizon to stop it look at the "progress" in the current International qualifiers ... a very fortunate late late late winner against a team that simply ran out of gas because their fitness isn't as good as the Conference, nevermind their skills ... an uninspiring 2-0 win against genuine minnows who would struggle to avoid relegation from the Conference ... an undeserved 0-0 draw against mighty Slovenia where the goalkeeper nobody wants saved them from another embarrassing "upset" ... nope, England have been in serious trouble for a long time now, and people need to realise that the Prem is the best-paid league in the world, NOT the best league in the world Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I had a very long debate about the future of Scottish football with a Hibees mate years ago when the Scottish FA decided to break up the leagues and go to their own Prem Lge format, at that time three divisions of 12, now four divisions of 10 ... by diluting the competition and limiting the number of clubs playing at the top level, Scotland inadvertently stopped a whole lot of players gaining exposure to playing against better players regularly, thereby limiting their growth as footballers ... add to this the influx of foreign players, Scottish youngsters opportunities to play competitively at a higher level disappeared fast ... you could see it coming a mile off Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
actually Josh, you do have to be technically brilliant to consistently pass the ball 10-15 yards in a fast moving, high pressure match ... once you can do that, then you will be able to have movement and fluidity ... it's the inability to keep possession under pressure and pass and move effectively that stops momentum I wonder if you've noticed one small change Monk has made at Leeds ... look at how Leeds try and pass the ball now, even if it's across the backline ... the pass is always looking to be in front of the recipient, meaning the player can run onto the ball and be in a positive, threatening stride ... under Evans far too many passes were behind a player, specially when passing sideways and trying to keep possession ... this stopped any flow and killed momentum ... nuff said Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Are you a Jock then Billy ? If you are don't you think you have some massive problem to sort out before you put the rest of the world to right.
Yorkshire lad, but I choose to acknowledge that England have struggled for years now, and the decline is continuing ... look, when the FA thinks Allardyce is an international class manager then you just have to shake your head ... you don't have to like England failing to realise they are rubbish Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
But that is what was being said earlier, with the right manager and infrastructure we could and would be doing better. Look at Rugby Union, we were awful at the Wotld Cup, we bring in no nonsense Eddy Jones and he has transformed us. Same players to pick from as before but a few changes and new approach has made all the difference. On that note it made me smile the other day, Jones was said to have sent a player a letter telling him to watch his weight, Jones had noticed he was looking a little over weight.
A simple 15 yard pass in front of the player is not technically brilliant. It should be the absolute minimum requirement to be a professional footballer. The movement is a much harder skill to learn but it comes with learning your team mates strong and weak points. Lack of movement makes the guy in possession look bad.
read again Josh ... "consistently pass the ball 10-15 yards in a fast moving, high pressure match" ... key points: CONSISTENT, AT PACE, UNDER PRESSURE this is why Barcelona are recognised as being technically brilliant, because they are relentless at pass & move football ... bottom line, England are not up to scratch at International level, haven't been for a long time, and it is shameful when you see Slovenia passing them off the park Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Disagree again, if pep guardiola for example was England manager we would within a few years be 20 times better than we are now and actually able to compete. The quality is there, I understand the quality isn't at the same level of Germany, France, Spain, Argentina and so on but it ain't as bad as what we have been consistently shown. The whole setup is run poorly and its obvious to see but nothing changes. As we always say, a club needs to be run well off the pitch to get results on the pitch, same applies for the national team.
not sure what game you were watching Billy but it wasn't the England game.If you had said a big hoof forwarded us off the park you might have been right but not passed, here's the stats for you. Slovenia-33% possession, passes 293,accuracy 61.8 %---------------------% of passes long ball 20.1% England-67% possession, passes 589,accuracy 86.8 %---------------------% of passes long ball 8 % As you can see England passed the ball too much, and were too slow going forward because of it,they need a plan B against this type of team, more direct and faster.
