Fredor will cleverly combine this with the earlier thread showing that Newcastle has many more fans (projected to be 6th in Europe this year). He will then employ his favourite dodgy calculus to show that we have achieved fewer points per fan than Sunderland, thus showing how much more effective a mackem supporter is than a Geordie. Using this conclusion as a springboard, he will show how the number of throw ins achieved during the 72 - 75 league cup fixtures demonstrate the superiority of all things Wearside.

When all of this is shown to be not only stupid but factually incorrect, he will affect an attitude of aloof disdain.

No doubt he will bring in Sunderland's title wins from 100 years ago to show that Sunderland are more 'successful.' If that is going to be used then Newcastle are the 8th most successful club in the this country in terms of trophies since the start of the Football League [funnily enough - above Sunderland.] If we are using recent history - i.e., the start of the PL, then Newcastle are still the most successful relatively speaking. We have been in the Champions League several times, the UEFA Cup/ Europa League several times and have since its foundation, played in the Premier League far longer than Sunderland.

Have you ever seen a Mackem in Milan to watch their club play in Europe? No. Will you ever? Not a chance.

He is not interested in stats like this - now where is the all time fouls committed league?

These facts may go some way to explaining the expectation levels which often permeate our collective fan base.

Actually a very good point here. Why would a club who on average finish 8th not hope for a push towards 6th and a cup run. Argh, sorry, damn me and me ludicrously heightened expectations.

So when people call us deluded, that table proves otherwise. If you are averaging 8th place, you should expect to at least finish there every season. If we were finishing 6-8th in the PL every season and going for the cups then people would largely be happy.

am unable to get my head around the fact that such a large number of people are unable to realise that in 1992 UK football changed from a competitive sport on a level playing field to be stolen from the working man ,continued football success in England today is decided 100% by how much money the owner of the club is prepared to spend , do you imagine for one moment that if Newcastle were to produce a couple of outstanding players that they would be allowed to keep them , My constant admiration for the Sunderland success is built on knowledge it was obtained when everyone was on an equal footing , and no I do not have to quote any facts or figures they are there for all to see as a matter of record

In any field of endeavour you cannot just quote a date on the calendar to use as a measure of success

You should have a word with one of the Sunderland fans who posts on here regularly. He enjoyed telling us about the time that Sunderland were the richest club in world football and were regularly breaking the world transfer record and winning league titles back in the day (if by back in the day you mean nearly 100 years ago). You should get in touch with him. I think his name was fredor or something like that.

I thank you for bringing that to my notice, and every last cent from their loyal supporters, not from a billionaire indulging in a hobby, even then Newcastle support was no match for the Sunderland fervour , I will look through my records and try to find something that NUFC excelled at , but give me time it is a mammoth task

Yet another instance that proves if you make all things equal Sunderland will show a remarkable ability to rise to the top, it must be in the genetic makeup of the area

It will in no way decrease the envy felt by those left behind , nor will it erase the records from the history books ,please spare a thought for these people whose torment will continue

Let me say I always admire your ability even when all seems lost, to maintain such a positive outlook for your chosen team, credit where it is due
