a lot of people saying Matty Fryatt had a poor game last night...truth is, he is a yard short of pace being a top, top striker, that hasnt changed from last season, hes shown he will still hit goals..to be fair if he had more pace he would have hit us 15.16 goals last season, the amount of through balls he just missed out on.. , he can make the clever runs into space etc...but when the midfield keeps playing the same through ball to him, after hes already been outpaced 3 or 4 times by the same defender, the problem goes deeper then just him, and youve surely got to look at ways of playing to get the best out of him...he isnt going to turn into a 100 metre sprinter overnight
I said on another thread a few days ago that Fryatt isn't the natural goalscorer that people bang on about. He's a bit of an Andy Cole in that he needs a few chances to score. He always seems to want that one touch too many which either gives the defender chance to get a foot in or allows the keeper to narrow the angle so much so that he just runs into him and doesn't actually get a shot away. He does good things with the ball outside of the box and runs the channels well though.
Pace wasn't Fryatts problem last night. It was the fact he wanted to take 10 touches when he should have taken 2. I still think he has the quality to be our main striker but he should have scored twice last night.
I agree, that extra touch on the ball gave the keeper more time to work out how to save his shot. We know Matt has the ability and hopefully it was just an off day for him.
They did not cut his supply, Blackpool defended suicidal in the last 10 minutes, Fryatt has never been very good at finishing, and is a bit too slow, because Crainey (correct me if I am wrong) kept tackling Fryatt after Fryatt broke free because Fryatt is not fast enough. Tom Cairney looks quality, Robbie Brady thinks he is Messi, he beats one, and then thinks he can beat 10, and Dele Adebola is poor, you need Steve Howard, you need our entire team sheet. Good luck for this season, I have nothing against Hull.
One ,two, three touches too many. should have buried them at first chance. not try and round the keeper at every opportunity. Not good enough for me.
he takes too many touches because of his lack of pace, most others would knock it out in front of them and run in ..but he keeps it too close to his feet, and almost trips over it at times..
Not sure if him and Adebola works as the pressures on him to score, would rather see him and Simpson even if they are similar.
I'm not sure it's even necessarily the amount of touches, just the fact that he the final touch which lost him the chance last night happened to be a rather big one.
He's a little short of pace but when you play dele adebola and then barmby up front he's the only one were going to play it to. simpson or mclean need to be playing alongside him in my opinion. the team likes to play along the ground but we ended up hoofing it at times to adebola, gulasci needs to work on his kicking a bit. he'll score 4 next week though from the same chances, hes never going to score every week!
Give him a break, he has a lot of pressure on him this season to score all our goals, he's bound to have an off day. yeah okay could of been better, he could/should of had at least 2 last night, however Barmby should of scored the rebound and Simoo should of finished at the end. Overall, we created the chances we just couldnt finish. Another game, they'll all go in!
