Just watched through Series 1 and now about e5 into series 2. Excellent. As good as Spiral, if you like edge-of-your-seat thrillers about cops and robbers. (Although this is not cops, it's villains).
Very different from the Sopranos, in my opinion. Incidentally, the film of the same name (i.e. Gomorrah) is nowhere near as good as this series.
Spiral is fantastic. The new series is scheduled for air next year, I think. Also, Braquo, is very good if you like French cop shows. A bit more comic book than Spiral - but still very good. Another French show that features a fair few of the Spiral crowd is Un Village Francais - a brilliant French series that depicts life in France throughout WW2 - from the initial invasion to liberation and its aftermath.
I loved The Sopranos but this is a different kettle. Sopranos can glamourise at times (part of its charm too) but Gomorrah is bleak as ****. Great soundtrack too.
some tv series ive watched recently The Killing - (the untrendy US versions - before a Melvyn Bragg type has a stroke) - 4 seasons and altho seasons one and two are quite slow , each episode is gripping and creates two intertwining storylines into the inevitable connection) i love the characters in The Killing , all believable . Seasons 3 and 4 are waaaay better & thats not to knock 1&2 , the pace is amped along with the Gore and Language factors , giving it a much more honest feeling ... All four seasons are Kinda connected (although watching 3 & 4 alone would work , the character building is worth the effort . \ BloodTies - This is a very slow paced thriller , again its well written and but the surprises and twists are limited , you know the outcome in episode 1 , but you are mainly watching the whys and hows .. . Season 2 for me wasnt needed so i gave up on episode 3 or 4 it kinda dealt with the clean up Stranger Things - we should all have watched this by now , nuff said Gotham - im not a superhero fan , i always prefered the villains so i never got on with superman/Batman/Spiderthing as a kid . . Gotham is great fun tho , in the begining the detracted sidestories (crime solving) are a bit cobbled together , but its about the development of the characters , later the episodic stories expand over 2 or 3 episodes giving them much more substance , - Yeah theres Batman/James Bond style "tie them up and im off for a coffee while they escape moments " but Batblokes main enemies are all really well crafted - esp Penguin he is the best . . Oh and its brim full of hotties
Emmerdale and Corrie are still strong, Westworld is just another tits and fanny Game of Thrones ****e, it's going to drag on for years and years, like Lost, it's a soap with A list actors. In the UK they commission 6 episodes of a new series to see how it goes, the yanks do 26 to tie in the sponsors, and make it however **** it is. Whats the last really good UK tv series everyone talked about recently, I can't think of one since Cracker, Prime Suspect, Possibly Sherlock?
Game of Thrones shouldn't really be in that list, it will have an ending. That is the main problem with American shows, they have some great ideas, good actors and great scripts, the only problem is they never seem to know how to end them. Lost as you mentioned, Walking Dead, all just go on and on with no foreseeable ending and eventually just fizzle out leaving you to wonder why you bothered watching, I can see Westworld going the same way.
