Exactly, you asked a genuine question, do We/I believe England are good enough. My answer was no, not in a tournament to win it, on a league basis I believe we would be around 6th with the right management.

If you are around the 6th best then Portugal, Leicester and Greece have shown in the past that with a bit of fortune you can do it.

Play the Euros over again next week and Portugal wouldn't be favourites, they are probably the most undeserved winners I have ever seen.

But it's not hatred Ristac. The English media can't wait to jump on the bandwagon as soon as England qualify for something, putting them up as favourites to win only to knock them down when the inevitable happens. A bit of modesty wouldn't go astray and that applies to a section of the fan base that also does no favours when visiting other countries unfortunately

I'll bet England would be better picking a team from lower pl or top of championship. Players likely to have more motivatiin. Far too many big time Charlie's involved believing they are better than they are. Rooney for example shouldn't even make a 22 man squad and wouldn't if he wasn't with scum

Then we would be like Ireland and Scotland, winning the odd big game but losing every other match. The players are there they just need a plan B for when teams park the bus and play on the break.Speed is the key England have some very fast players but don't get the ball forward quick enough a big hoof every now and again maybe.

Two things I'd like to address (great thread Doc) ... England don't have eleven world class players nevermind a tournament squad of 23 capable of challenging ... the loss to Iceland was not a fluke, it was a fair reflection as to where England are right now ... the truth is that no matter who manages them, England are not good enough to challenge at tournaments, and the way it's going probably never will again ... Slovenia were technically better than England, and that in itself was embarrassing ... too often you see England play and the opposition are better at ball control and passing ... if the Prem allowed for no English players in your club squad, I'd bet most wouldn't see the light at the end of the Prem matchday tunnel ... the Prem greed has killed the national team

Now, as for that crook Venables ... he was in charge of a team that didn't have to qualify, so had no pressure for two years while giving players game time ... his team was probably the best since 1966, a solid unit jam packed with quality, and an incredibly strong and reliable spine ... Seaman, Adams, Ince, Gascoine (in the form of his life), and Shearer meant the team was solid when defending and a genuine threat going forward ... add to this players like Stu Pearce, Sheringham and McManaman and you could understand why the Dutch were hammered 4-1 ... Venables had a great team, no qualification woes to disrupt the squad and drain confidence, and also the passion of the home nation behind them ... England should have won that tournament, not lost out in the semis ... Venables is an overrated buffoon

Don't think it's hate Ristac, banter between nations. I suppose it's the way your media build the side up, maybe it's the arrogance from certain players. I certainly don't hate the English team, after all I support an English team. <ok>

To pick up on one of Ristacs points namely not having any world class players. I agree we dont right now but have plenty of potential greats. Look at a few months ago 'The Golden Age' it was known as: Terry, Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard, Beckham and more. We can argue about world class but I suspect we will never see the like again in one team. Crap management killed them. So makes no difference who we had the English game, the English system, the English structure hasnt worked and that includes under 2 world class foreign managers.

Our media were great a few weeks ago and this is what has happened.
    1. Hodgson must go and does
    2. Big Sam will be great and deserves a chance
    3. Big Sam must go
    4. Southgate has earned his spurs and deserves a chance
    5. Southgate is doing all the right things
    6. Nothing today as they all look like stupid cnts

Until we do something radical it makes no difference what manager we get, we could even use Hockadat and get no worse results than weve had.

The season, xmas schedule, foreign close season trips to Far East and UsA to make money selling shirts. Everything revolves around making money for the Prem teams and the prem league meaning national game is screwed and always will be. The FA should be insisting on using UK players at a higher ratio than we have, no point in having academies as overseas kids are cheaper to get and take the place of our kids. Chelsea have 53 players out on loan!!! How the fook can that help anyone but Chelsea and yet the FA are a bunch of scared coonts as they want the prem cash too.

None of the above will, change anytime soon so for me we need to be inspiring players and nobody does it better than Butcher
