I don't particularly rate Smalling but he's a much better and safer bet than Cahill. Lingard has done ok in the two matches but if he's the best we've got then quite frankly we're ****ed. His first touch and passing can be shocking. It's a shame Ox rarely plays for Arsenal. He's got loads of potential.
... on Smalling vs Cahill I completely agree ... Lingard is still young but you are probablty right there too ... Smalling and Stones is IMHO unquestionably the best centre back pairing available and should start to be embedded in now ... and if they make a few errors establishing themselves, so what? ... the last two England displays have been completely abject ... Slovenia must be wondering how the hell thay didn't win that last night ... and blatherings about our errors giving them chances etc is just papering over the (huge) cracks ...
You don't have to be hard in modern day football, you just need to act like it to get the tag. Modern day footballers wouldn't stands a chance against players from the 90s, never mind 70s and 80s!
To be fair, I think this Spurs... er.... (I mean) England side need time to adjust, once all the ****e players have been removed.
... called thread 'alerts' buddy ... you get them automatically on threads you have posted on ... we've been through this before ... doesn't mean you are special (necessarily)
Hart - 9 - Very good performance. Walker - 5 - Huffed and puffed but he's an athlete, not a footballer. Stones - 6 - Commendably put the ball into row z on a coupld of occasions but he still insists on giving the opponent chances. Cahill - 4 - Abject. Rose - 3 - See Walker. Henderson - 2 - Did he have a bet on Slovenia to score first? Played their strikers in 3/4 times. Dier - 3 - See name. Did he pass forward once? Walcott - 3 - Anonymous. Lingard - 5 - Best of a poor attack. Alli - 5 - Not good enough but young enough. Needs to improve. Sturridge - 3 - Waste of space. Rooney - 5 - Affected the game somewhat. Townsend - 6 - He's exciting but his end product is Walcott-like. Rashford - N/A - Needs to be playing more. Comfortably England's most exciting player.
No, that's the problem Plucky old Leicester winning the league still wasn't enough to convince the sponsors that pick the sides to choose players who are playing well rather than players who are playing for so-called big clubs. Jesse Lingard in particular is a very fortunate man.
Who's playing well for Leicester? I'd say the Spurs lads have earned their call up...nothing to do with sponsors.
Drinkwater is churning out top performances week in week out. I'd say that he's improved since last season. Vardy looks tired but he should still be playing ahead of Sturridge (glad he wasn't). As for the Spurs lads, I'd say that Dier is lucky to be ahead of Drinkwater but he'll always get the nod in the negative 4-5-1 that the F.A. are so obsessed with. Isn't Clyne injured? I'd definitely have him in over Walker. Not sure there's really anyone to replace Rose.
