I listened to City v Chelsea on the radio whist watching the game live. The RH commentary by Burnsey was about 5 seconds behind the action which was odd, Burnsey was pretty good in terms of describing the action but his increase in decibels when the opposition score gets right on my wick. So much so that 'd like to Mike Hookem, there again he is built like a brick $hithouse
Burns is the loudest man Ive ever known. I think sometimes he forgets how a microphone works, or that he has one, as he just shouts everything. You could hear his Sid James-esque cackle from outer space. He's an alright bloke, dont listen to his show but hate his City commentary 'old pals act' with Swan. That faux laddishness with as much chat about food and beer as football really gets on my tit-end. If there's nothing happening during the match, talk about something else to do with the club - I couldnt give two flying ****s about the night out you had.
I like the Burnsy/Swanny commentaries for that exact reason - they are 2 blokes who go to a football match for a pie and a pint and to enjoy the game. MOTD and especially Sky are far too serious.
Burnsy 'gets' Hull so well and he is more than willing to push that extra mile. As an example it was him that pushed and pushed to get J Arthur Rank's house fixed. I still think it's a disgrace that it needed an outsider (Not originally from Hull) to get something like that restored. He is willing to ask questions even when it's questions that are unpopular. He has earned this award so congratulations to him.
I listen to football commentary to hear about football. While we're on about him I also think it's a disgrace that we have Swan as our designated pundit. Why isnt it a City legend? I cant think of any other club in the country who would have a bit part player tosspot who couldnt wait to get away from the club as the radio representative whose first words at half time every week centre around how our biggest geographical rival is getting on.
Burnsy tends to be better without Swanny. He does concentrate on the commentary of the game more with a different co commentator. I don't mind either really.
Agree about Swan. There's just nothing City about him. Particularly when the name change proposal was ongoing, whenever it was discussed by Burnsy, Matt Dean etc after whatever the latest ridiculous twist was, and then they'd go to Swan for his 'expert' opinion (even though he's much less an expert than any of the RH presenters) and he'd always show the kind of dismissive attitude to its importance that you'd expect from a non-football fan. I think he comes across as a mercenary who has always just made a living from the game rather than someone with any real passion for it.
I wouldnt say better. Wasnt it Dave Merrington last season as a guest Co comm. He was brilliant, absolutely ****ing brilliant. Real insight and intelligence about football. Burns was completely lost. You kept hearing these long pauses as he had nowt to come back with. He hated it and was desperate to get back to pies, having a **** and oh Swanny...
Now I didn't hear it, but what do you expect from a co-commentator? A cutting edge impromptu stand-up (sit down) routine? The worst reporter, bar none, on national media is Chris Kamara yet many people think he's funny and entertaining. He actually even plays on his incompetence at his job to aid his popularity. Work that one out.
I like Kamara. I would sooner be surrounded by joking smiley people like him than miserable people who moan about everything in the world.
Have people forgotten that Swanny was actually a pretty good player - in two positions. Exactly the kind of player we could have done with recently - a big brave centre forward who scored a few and made more for his fellow strikers. And a defender to be reckoned with too which is what we bought him for.
Brave centre forward !!! Now thats a blast from the past.!! Most of them are bunch of fannies that dare not go in where it hurts now. They might break a toenail which will hinder them driving there Lamborghini.
