The EU debate - Part III

The SNP make noises, but polls show that there's no real support for leaving the UK. Our relationship with the jocks is nothing like the EU, they're better represented and have more influence in Parliament for one.

Had we voted remain, it wouldn't have been to stay in the system as it was and would be a green light for changes.

 

There's a lot of support for Scottish independence, especially now that Brexit's on the horizon.
Another vote would be too early to risk for the SNP, though. Losing again would look awful.

How have you assessed the amount that they're represented, as compared to the UK in the EU?

Assessed? I haven't sat and scrutinised it. It's pretty obvious just by looking and following it. Do you have any figures to show otherwise?

It's interesting to see you dismissing the views of experts in your field. It looks more like you're arguing a username rather than a point.

 

You're making the assertion, so it's up to you to support it, not for me to refute it.

The vote for independence was only narrowly lost in the first place.
Scotland was also in favour of staying in the EU, which was used as part of the In campaign.

 

The recent polls show there's no real appetite for a change. If you seriously believe that the jocks have less sway in the UK Parliament than the UK has in the EU, no amount of information will let you believe otherwise.

 

So you're just going to make the claim, fail to support it and expect people to agree?

 

If it makes you happy to be able to say that, yes. I'm ****ed if I'm arguing over such a ridiculous none point. It looks far more like a diversion than a serious opinion you could hold.

I guess the West Lothian question could be a starting point.

This sums up virtually every argument that Leave used.
Make a big, bold claim and then just hope that nobody asks for any evidence.
If any comes up that contradicts it, then blame experts for being all smart and **** and rubbish it as a fear tactic.

You have no idea whether Scotland's better represented by the UK's political system than the UK is in the EU.
You just simply think that it's the case, so it must be true. You'd be able to demonstrate it, otherwise.
I have no idea myself. The UK's politicians generally agree with the EU, though. They're not some oppressed minority.

 

I, and anyone else that pays even the slightest attention has an idea about Scotland's influence on the UK parliament, and the UK's influence on the EU. It's not even a bold point.

 

Should be easy to support, then.

Nah, it's a **** diversion and irrelevant. Rather than waste time on such a ridiculous argument, I'll just say you're absolutely right, the Scots have no influence on the UK and will leave given half the chance. How's that?
