Being discussed in the politics thread. I reckon he did far more then just comments. Sadly.

The man has always given me the creeps, so this doesn't surprise me in the least. I'm also expecting his current wife to begin divorce proceedings a few months after the election (no way will Trump be elected). What's really sickened me are the number of women who are saying that they'll still vote for him - I honestly don't understand them...

Thank you so much, a fabulous story, and it's prompted me to share something similar.. My Dad passed away in August at the very ripe old age of 102. He was a season ticket holder for many years. In fact we managed to get him to St. Mary's for his 100th to watch Saints take Newcastle apart a couple of years ago.. At his funeral my brother did the eulogy but I had a couple of stories to tell at the end.. Funeral footnotes if you will.. One of which was...
In 1976 Dad and I went to Wembley separately, I went with a bunch of reprobates by mini bus and Dad went with and in the Fords Staff social club coach. We both had tickets for the same terrace. About 10 minutes before the end I looked across the terrace and there was Dad about 10 yards away .. I pushed my way through to him and we linked arms agreeing that Saints were going to win, within a minute it happened! Dad and I were lifted several feet in the air.. Now here's a story, it fell to me to register Dad's death. The advice is to take something that proves identity. I couldn't find his birth certificate, passport and driving licence many years out of date. However, I had his and Mum's (she died in May) marriage certificate that was kept in a transparent plastic folder, they were married in South Africa in 1939. I reread the details with a tear in my eye, then turned the document over and there...... was his cup final ticket. He sure knew how to keep the important documents together!! Just to finish the story, they were married for 77 years, Reg2.jpg I added up their ages Mum was 97 years 7 months and 8 days, Dad was 102 years 4 months and 25 days. When you add them together you get 200 years and 2 days.. Bless them.. The picture was taken outside the Junction before the Newcastle game on Dad's 100th.

I like the incidental inclusion of 'locally sourced' on the menu. I'm sure you all are. ;)

That is wonderful. Fantastic that your dad was still able to go to a live game as a centenarian, and what a marriage.
The picture outside the Junction. Is that your local, or just a match day pub? Just interested, as, until he split up from Dawn (landlady) my brother was landlord there.

I can't call it my local, (We live in Durley), although I have used the pub off and on for 45 years. Dawn and your brother knew Mum and Dad as they were regulars for lunch 10 or so years ago.. Dawn leaves in a few weeks and my understanding is that the people who keep the Richmond in Portswood are going to take on the Junction as well. We often drink there pre match and then in the Guide Dog post match. Parking is easy and the walk along the path by the river is usually pleasant.

I'm so pleased that I'm not one of those who rushes out to buy the newest this or the shiniest that. I'm more than happy with my 3 year old LG phone and don't want to change it for at least 5 years.

I have a pretty pink phone....without looking I can't tell you who made it. It makes phone calls and does texts and is at least 5 years old. I think it is wonderful for being able to contact people in an emergency. It means that I don't keep looking at it, never look things up all the time (which I tend to do with my home computer) and I have never wanted to photograph my dinner. It means I look up and see the world....notably mothers not talking or even looking at their babies because they are on the phone, kids talking to absent friends and not the ones they are with, and people wandering into the road with scarcely a glance....and don't get me started on one-handed drivers.

However, you can't put the genie back in the bottle.

I have a lot of agreement with this view, although I still have my Galaxy S2. I do look things up on it when out, and I'm currently learning Italian off it, plus it plays internet radio to me to send me to sleep. And it has a fairly large screen. You can actually buy new old stock S2s for about £75. It is really a tiny computer which makes phone calling and texting dead easy. Despite many attempts by my own temptation to upgrade it I can't honestly say I want anything more.

Or four friends who are out for a meal together but aren't talking because they're each on their phone. Happened at a table next to me last week and it certainly wasn't the first time. They also seemed really peeved when the waiter walked up to take their order and these were people in their early 40s, I'd say, not youngsters who have grown up not knowing any different...
