Hendo's playing well tonight. Lovely cross fro sturridge, dictating the tempo by speeding up passing with 1 touch and moving, set up Alli's goal with nice run as well.

Malta done bugger all though, barely need any defenders.

 

The only reason to play defenders in a game like this is to get used to a team and style of playing, otherwise you might as well play 1 CB and a load of forwards and mids.

 

These games are so boring, is it the same for the other 'big' European teams against the minnows?
Frankly it looks like settled for 2-0 and maybe they get a third.

Thought Rooney was very poor today. The commentator and pundits were creaming themselves over Lingaards performance, they must have been watching a different game to me. Think the game on Tuesday will tell us more about this England squads capabilities

T'was a game where nobody did any damage to their England career, even Rooney, but at the same time nobody did anything to enhance their status, especially Rooney.
Could have been a game where someone (or a whole load of someones) did something good and smashed Malta. Instead it was a functional limp game, get a goal or two and that's enough as Malta were never going to score.
Think Southgate could have picked aload of league 1 or 2 players and the result would still have been the same.

Edit: on Rooney, Frankly this was game he needed to prove he was worth it (its Malta ffs!, this is the type of game he's good in). Whilst he didn't do much wrong, he hardly did much to show he's invaluable or that someone else couldn't do what he does (which was not much in the end)
