I can barely be arsed with some of the footy threads which turn into slagging matches, so allowing politics and religion would be a no no for me
I suspect that the volume of comments on this thread are a far better reflection of people's views than the previous poll on the subject (which I don't remember anyway actually) Political process is really important, and I think everyone should engage with local and national politics because if you don't then you don't deserve to moan about the outcome of politician's decisions But I've no desire to know anyone's party political affiliations on here, and no one needs to know mine, so keep it hidden please comrades...
I think it's worth pointing out that the CI plus forum was created because board users on there were unhappy with political discussions disrupting the main board. I think most agree that the removal of politics from the main forum improved it no end, and it became busier, until the rivals network closed and the board's struggled a bit since.
There was a separate thread on Trump v Clinton wasn't there? Was it deleted? If so, why not just closed?
This is a good example of how a forum evolved to accommodate all of its members - not just the views of some. It's a shame what happened with CI, it could be enjoyable around the Rivals network era.
This forum already has the same arrangement, in fact it goes much wider. Anyone wanting to discuss broader topics has a choice of other boards to use. The main one that springs to mind for politics is the Premier League board. http://www.not606.com/forums/the-premier-league.10/
More than enough to win an election Politics & Religion are far too divisive subjects for a forum like this where people will already argue that water isn't wet given half a chance !! Once you let in politics or religion you then let in racism, sexism & xenophobia hiding behind the politics or religion banners
Water isn't wet. It's a liquid (when it's not solid or gaseous). To define something as being wet is to describe a quality of a liquid. That requires an observer independent of the water to experience it's wetness. Nobody to experience wetness means no wetness. Just liquid water with a potential quality if it is experienced at some point in time. That's Ernie's philosophy lesson for this afternoon. I'm away to watch the football and drink some beer.
An election? I've read some hyperbole from you previously but crikey, it seems that poll I set up was somekind of seminal moment for the board. I do agree that the baggage of political extremes can be unsavoury and I wouldn't want any of that. I've come across racism, sexism and xenophobia already on this forum, in differing forms, previously. But generally speaking, I think most people would behave reasonably because they are reasonable people. I think it's fine that people don't want the option of discussing politics but some of the hype/reaction surrounding it is laughable/embarrassing.
