Not funny but 'Venegor of Hesselink' is definitly strange..you need broad shoulders to carry that one off. Bet not many fans chose that for their shirt. Apparently an ancient family name resulting from marriage of two 2 important families. Over here it would mean that your parents weren't married!

it sounds more like his family was from Hesselink, but I'll bow to your superior knowledge.

Apparently 'of' means 'and' in the local dialect. Stick with me kid and you'll learn more useless information than you could ever need. fran of P********h, Cardiff, Dorking, Cranleigh, Horsham, Petworth, and Oyl of Wight.

Yeah but back then it was probably the only place with facilities and your parents probably took a horse and carriage from Cranleigh for 3 days to get to Florence Nightingale's tent for the birth......:emoticon-0110-tongu

Fran there are some things you can safely admit to and discuss and then there is family shame, that should remain private and never be discussed publicly. The fact that your parents were so disgracefully unkind and neglectful of your feelings that they made you live in that place down the coast is something for which they should forever be ashamed and about which you would be wise to keep very quiet about.

My neighbour, work colleague and best friend admitted that he had been born in "that horrid place" and we haven't spoken since.

Technically I should not even acknowledge that I have read your disgraceful confession of lax parenting but on the assumption that you are going to or are raising your family in a far healthier environment than your parents neglectfully raised you I am deferring my judgement of you at this time.

My son supported ManU and I converted him to a rabid Saints fan...I hope that that goes someway to correcting the tragedy of my birth.

Fran you are redeemed and will be fondly held up as an example of how even with the most traumatic and horrid experiences as a child you grew up to become a decent and respected member of an honourable community and that you did a great deed of kindness for your son. We embrace you with the love and affection that only fellow Saints can feel for each other.

There have been dark days for Saints when seeing the misery on my son's face made me wonder whether I should have been reported to child services, but we're back in the sunshine now.

Oh Fran you are back as a saint now for sure! :emoticon-0131-angel

My mum was a Manure fan yet I came out ok.... thanks Dad :emoticon-0107-sweat

My father-in-law (until he decided to get an ST at Wigan), best mate (God father to my son), brothers in law and both my sisters supported united ... they used to try and sing "Glory glory to my son when he was three and four years old. I threatened to ban them from seeing him. I even got told of by my wife for shouting angrily at my brothers in law for making him sing those songs :emoticon-0121-angry.... thankfully he survived and has grown into a fully fledged Saints fan living here in Northampton.

I've told the story before so apologies, but I asked my son if he ever regretted changing to a Saints fan. He said, 'I supported ManU as a child. I'd be ashamed to support them as an adult'. And they say we can't raise kids anymore (said with tear in eye).

Vennegor of Hesselink name was the product of a marriage. They couldn't decide which family name to use so they decided on Vennegor OR Hesselink. Apparently of means or in dutch.

My favourite funny name was the spanish? player Lopez Ufarte from the mid 80s
