Half the people on here would argue about the colour of the sky in an empty room. God forbid they actually argued about something important. (Oops was that religion?)

In the interests of reciprocal research I've been on several party political forums this morning and posted a thread entitled "So what do you think about Hull City's start to the season." I was condescendingly ignored by the Tories. Labour argued that the motion would need putting before all members before it was answered. Then started arguing amongst themselves about the best way to do that. A bloke from UKIP threatened to hunt me down and punch me. The Lib Dem board was just grateful that some one would talk to them. (And they wish us well btw.) Hope this helps.
Could we have a colour marker for politics like we do for mdt, OT and prediction league? That way it's clearly marked and people who can't be bothered to read the title can see the colour and steer clear. There is bound to be politics, the state of the world is appalling and people are going to want to discuss it.
You must be joking, we can't even get Mick to fix the things that break, we're not going to get a new topic bar just for one board. It's really not the issue either, I'd see unmoderated threads on this board as real step backwards, it's been tried and failed on other boards on here.

I think the no politics thing is right , it would probably be a nightmare for the mods sorting out political threads and would definitely lead to more animosity and abuse here
So what is it about politics that's so bad yet there are so many other off topic subjects that have caused problems? Religion I can kind of understand because it's a personal thing to some and controversial, but politics isn't, not really. I agree that threads about football should not descend into political bollocks and should be rightly blocked, but why a total ban on politics threads when there's some stufff said on here sometimes that's much, much worse?
The only productive religion or political forums I have run across have been heavily moderated. Most aren't that way, which means the quality of discourse sinks inexorably to the lowest common denominators. Best to keep the ban.
Agreed. There are lots of threads that get derailed by a whole manner of other topics, yet are ignored, no matter how incendiary or banal. There are countless other off topics that are discussed that are away from football talk too yet are deemed ok. It seems that there are circa 50 members who are against it - should the rules simply just cater for them? I do understand that the mods fear the extra work it might cause - fair enough. But, as I suggested a few months ago, why not elect a specific politics mod who is solely in charge of moderating the political aspects of the forum? Thus releasing the burden. I also do understand the sentiment of some who don't want to read or discuss politics on the forum. However, if it 's restricted to one (or more) designated threads, then what's the harm to them? It's quite sad that people feel that members couldn't be trusted to act accordingly if politics were allowed to be discussed on the forum? Plus we have arguments on here about other things all the time - often makes good reading.
Or just don't get involved in the debates. Whoever starts the thread should try and keep it on track and if they think it's going haywire, PM a mod to lock it.
No. But there were a few people vying for a mod role the last time we had some sort of election (think Quill was one of them). It's likely that at least one of them might be interested.
