Basically we cannot afford not to. Climate change is already happening, the cost to human life, infrastructure, homes, businesses etc will be catastrophic if we don't arrest it.

They've offered to lend us some of their own people to negotiate... with them?
Even Pete could see the problem with that one, though he'd probably put it down to the bloody foreigners.

This is the excuse that Cameron used, alongside 'getting rid of all that Green crap'

... they also know the rancid right are too incompetent to run the country ... unfortunately they are currently attempting it ... I'm sure we are all hoping that will change soon ... <ok>

I expect that mini earthquakes and the release of dangerous gases is something that people already experience living in the vicinity of Pete :)

.. you may be in for a surprise ... once the full impact of Brexit hits there will be a groundswell of anger ... and the focus for that anger will be the incumbent government ... the neos will jump to UKIP and the moderates will find common ground with the centre left .... as the Blair years showed, once the support for a more moderate Labour starts to swell and the red tops jump from the sinking blue ship ... the Tories get a major spanking ... and not of the Edwina kind <whistle> ...

Yet more ignorance displayed by you.

Fracking on an island this size is the most ridiculous notion we've had in a generation. Go bother yourself to research the effects of it and how it's viewed in the vast open spaces of Aus and the US you ****ing ignoramous

EDIT: and when you've done that, research who are some of the major shareholders in the energy companies who are involved and the land owners who are being paid......

... but on a serious note, fracking is completely unecessary ... a government subsidy for Pete to sit in Gregss with a hose-pipe up his arse could facilitate the heating of the East Riding for the next decade ...<laugh>

Fracking won't come on stream for a couple of years and there are better ways of obtaining gas fuel than risking ground water and stability. Biogas is a much more sensible option.
These are available and far more worthy of consideration.

When they were nationalised, profits from trains, gas electricity etc were used to maintain the infrastructure of the national grid and power plants.
In private hands, the profits went to foreign boards and shareholders subsidising operations in other countries, and the infrastructure has deteriorated to a disastrous level and UK tax payers will be left to pick up the bill.
To a fair degree, the EU limited opportunities to resolve it by nationalisation.

Its not the EUs fault we sold our infrastructure and no longer have the know how to maintain it ourselves.

Debatable on both counts, but they've certainly limited the options on nationalisation, which is my preferred option for utilities and railways.

Most rail in other EU countries is state-owned I thought.

The rail network is now effectively nationalised, we could easily not renew licences to operators if we chose.

Utilities were sold off well before the EU had a say and we don't have the resources to buy them back. What we can do is be stronger on their performance and restrict their profits

Most rail in this country is state-owned too, it's just not this state. Germany, Holland and France are all in on the act.

I wonder if all of those people who objected to wind turbines 'blighting' the landscape will be happier to see drilling rigs taking their place instead ?
