Isn't it common courtesy to cancel the ticket and let another fan go if there are thousands of failed applicants for every game?

They have a phone line set up for it, it would have taken 30 seconds.

Common courtesy and in fact, the rules demanded by their club, which are perfectly clear. They chanced their arm for his sons mate, got found out and lost. Don't do the crime, if you dont wanna do the time.

    Football is about revenue.
Surely the club wasn't out of pocket as they would have taken his cash on allocation so can not see the issue.
Should have just black balled him in future ballots. He would never have known.

The Mail article's wrong, nobody chanced their arm and lost, he was just banned for not collecting his ticket.

So the Independent us wrong as well.

As far as they were concerned the ticket had been picked up, it was picked up and given to someone else (in contravention of the regulations , and for which you can see the reason for).

How did they know on the gate it wasn't him and refuse entry to the KC,they could never spot kids and OAPs tickets bring used by people who should have been paying full price.

Have you not looked at the link to the Man United board?

Well, someone picked it up. Otherwise the person in possession of it wouldn't have been refused entry at the KC.
Perhaps they fell foul of a spot check by Man Utd officials and therefore were in contraventionmof the golloeing (and they aren't the only club to prohibit giving tivkrts to someone else for reasons which are obvious.) It appears more a case of not notifying them he wasn't going and the ticket being handed on to someone else through ofgicial channels.

    • If an away match ticket is transferred or found in the possession of another supporter, the Club will discontinue your ability to apply for away games. If a ticket is resold to another supporter your facilities will be cancelled without refund, and you will be banned from buying tickets and attending matches for a period of three years.
    • Please remember that Away match tickets are non-transferable (passing to friends or family at face value, or free of charge is not permitted). All tickets ticket must be used by the registered holder. If you apply for an away game and unable to attend, please contact us to cancel and receive a refund for your match ticket, at least 24 hours before the game is due to be played.
    • We will conduct match ticket validations at selected away grounds. Any supporter required to collect their match ticket, must collect in person at the nominated stadium, with photographic identification. Please do not apply for a game unless you are able to collect your ticket.
    • Any supporters who cancel a ticket once they have been asked to collect will be required to collect their ticket for every subsequent game where they are successful in a ballot.
    • Any supporters who are asked to collect, do not cancel, and then do not collect, will lose their right to apply for domestic away games for a minimum of 12 months.

Nobody was refused admission according to the Man United lads, that's the bit of the article they're claiming is wrong.

So the ticket was picked up, as he says he gave it to a friend of his son?

The ticket wasn't picked up, the seat was left empty, nobody collected it, the letter he was sent is on the Mirror article on the Man United forum. The bit about someone else tying to use it/being refused entry wasn't true.

Fair enough. A silly ruling but indicative of what football has come to.

I know someone who was given a pass to use at a Chelsea game because the pass holder was going on holiday. A steward noticed a different face, called down higher ups and he was marched out. I think the pass holder had his pass withdrawn or was threatened with the possibility. Reason given for the no transfer of tickets ruling was to prevent banned fans getting in. That was two or three years back, don't know if they have altered things since.
