Clean sheets aren't only down to us. When referees allow goals against us that violate the rules you just have to get on with scoring another. That's why playing for 1-0 is stupid and can only be done consistently if you know you've bought the ref.

4 penalties in 7 games so far.

It seems they're firmly on the payroll

nobody but a moron plays for 1-0.

teams should set out to win a game by any means necessary yes but the mourinho tactic of going negative the instant he gets a lead has back fired so many times on him its hilarious.

the best teams figure out how to beat a side, then apply the tactics and don't stop if they happen to get an early goal.. they only stop when the game is won. or its clear they can ease off and see out time at 2 or 3 up.

You can't score bagfuls of goals every week over a 38 game season

Every top side has the knack of grinding out a 1-0 on a day when they're not at their best for whatever reason

You suffer from the same Manc disease that was rampant in 2013 of being unable to judge context

e.g. if the Mancs get 5 penalties for blatant dives and we get 6 penalties for players being hacked down when we should have had 10 then the #bentasfuck difference is +5 for them and -4 for us, you don't just look at 6>5 because there is actually such a thing a #legit pen

no.. all game plans try to prevent teams scoring when they have the ball and to score when you have it.

but to change from.. we play this way to get a goal to lets pile behind the ball and not want it when we do score is not IMO a good game plan.

all I'm saying is the best game plan to win a game is the one most teams start with but some teams (like cheslea under mourinho as an example) could get a goal after 10 mins then do right no more we are now in our shell.

I don't think that disagrees at all with ending up with a 1-0 when you are not on top form cos you still did the basics well. There is no reason why doing the basics right and attacking to score a goal are not the same thing.

In short you might have got one but you didn't stop trying to get no 2. sides might fail but they haven't the back door wide open whether they are on top form and getting 4 or not so good and just getting 1.

Ironic post given that you were the author.

I don't think there's ever been a legit pen awarded against Liverpool judging from your contribution to the match threads.....

I've now seen the extremely soft pen that gifted you 3 points at Swansea btw. You'd have been screaming blue murder if that would have come at the other end.

I don't think it was that soft. they clearly robbed a chance there.

I don't doubt that other shouts were absolutely crap from us.

But.... if one of our players did that i'd be shouting at them... not the ref. It was a total brain fart... moreno style.

No I'm happy for shoves and shirt-pulls to always be awarded, even if it means about 5 pens each per game because then it puts deciding the game in the players' hands rather than the ref's decisions

That pen was our 3rd or 4th that should have been awarded BTW and was in no way soft

Rangel was even more brainless than Moreno and if it were any team other than Liverpool you'd be saying #nailedon WTF was he thinking

<laugh> might save this one for when everton are involved in a pen.
It was a stupid pen to give away but in no way can it accurately be described as soft. Almost every ref would have given that pen no matter what teams were involved.

I agree. every other shout not given was fair too. they were never pens and sturridge's card was also fair enough.

thought the card for studge was a bit harsh, but then thats only judging it against what you see going unpunished most weeks. would be happy if everyone was booked for similar.

We've been the beneficiaries of a soft pen already this season

The difference is I can acknowledge it.

No i too can acklowledge if we have been awarded a soft pen. it appears that the difference bewtween us is merely that i understand what constitutes a soft pen whereas whereas you have demonstrated that you are incapable of judging, especially regarding liverpool.

It was widely described by pundits and reporters alike as being a soft penalty though..

Soft doesn't mean it was a wrong call, merely that it was either slightly generous or bought. In this case both imo

But I'm sure you're completely objective in your appraisal of it <laugh>
