Whoever recommend " beast of no nation" knows a good film when they see one, I really liked it. Bloody good film even... It's about child soldiers in an African state... Don't think it's a true story but it would probably not be far off the mark....
Day 284, film 284, "genius" About book editor maxwell Perkins And Thomas Wolfe whose manuscripts He worked on....
Day 285, film 285," Zulu", not the one with Michael Caine, it's about police in South Africa trying to stop anew drug that turns the user insane . Stars Forrest Whitaker and Orlando bloom.....
Been flying recently so done some small screen film watching, quite a random selection too London's Fallen - terrorist / die hard esque nonsense, but I enjoyed it actually. Good explosions and impressive shots of London bombed to bits, without being too CGI Zootropolis - just a funny cartoon, nice Breaking Bad reference slotted in too for those that notice that type of thing Pan - OK, annoying accent from the actor playing Hook though. Kids would like it I think The intern - Simple comedy with De Niro. Bit of a click flick but OK for watching with wife on the settee without having to think I suppose. Superman v Batman ( or the other way round) - got bored so turned it off. Maybe one for a bigger screen than an airline seat? Dead Pool - best of the bunch for me, funny and irreverent. Super powers but flatly refusing to be a good guy 'hero' Enjoyed it very much
I watched two films on the plane this morning: Our Kind Of Traitor - Ewan McGregor stars as an accidental hero rescuing the family of a Russian mafia boss who's trying to defect. Very watchable. The Shallows - Blake Lively stars as a girl attacked by a shark, who then goes on to eat three other blokes, while she sits on a rock. It's like Jaws but all filmed in one location, there's some daft bits, but she's quite hot, so we'll let her off.
Had a chance to watch 2 films over the last couple of days 'Bridge Of Spies' and 'Mercury Rising' both immensely enjoyable.
Animation for tonight.... Day 286, film 286, "Kingsglaive, final fantasy XV" Oh and a cpl more episodes of season 1 of "the wire", ****ing love this series ..
for those that havent seen it: https://afdah.org/watch?v=A_Royal_Night_Out_2015#video=smNk-1bJhWQRllgy-g02nMO8EAq5mt4ER1CTO9CVqAc
Being a senior citizen, ok old bas****d, then The Best Marigold Hotel is a fine film for my age group to watch, but even better (the script especially) The 2nd Best Marigold Hotel is a corker.
A hat trick of films today, Day 288, film 288, " Crimson Peak " Followed by " grandma " And finally " changing lanes "
sitting on planes is where I get to catch up on a lot of movies. on my last trip, watched: Our Kind of Traitor - like you thought it very watchable. The Man Who Knew Infinity - OK, but the dodgy attempts at making science and maths accessible kind of spoiled it. Demolition - not my kind of movie as rule, but the performances by Gyllenhall, Watts and the kid that played her son (sorry, can't remember the name) made it better than others in the genre. High Rise - very enjoyable, albeit something of an acquired taste. Watched Swiss Army Man in a proper cineman when I got back. Thoroughly recommend this -- may have supplanted Deadpool as my favourite movie this year.
