I suggested a pinned thread on politics to OLM, I was shutdown. Personally, I think if it was limited to one thread it would be less of an incentive for people to go on tangents on other threads. If that does happen, the mods could delete the political posts on non-political threads or simply move them to the political thread. And the rule on 'no politics' is already vague.

The verbal diarrhoea spouted on non-political threads between posters in the past (myself included) is far worse than the political stuff anyway so I don't get the 'it's too polarising and divisive' argument.

I mean, imagine being told to slit your wrists because you made a joke about someone's crush on David Meyler lmao.

Folks on here will no doubt recall that I have been pretty 'political' at times. I still hold strongish political views, but have been trying to make any political comment point out the absurdity, hypocrisy and comedy of much of what is uttered by politicians and 'leaders'.

    Must be getting old...

It'll get dominated by no more than 10 or so loud voices, and because it's the internet all opinions will eventually lurch to ridiculous polar extremes and all sanity will be lost.

    IMO

If politics is going to be allowed, then it should be on a sticky.

That wouldn't bother me in the slightest, because I wouldn't read it.

    Easy innit :emoticon-0112-wonde

There must be plenty of other places where those interested can indulge.

I'm in favour of some discussion of politics when there is a key local or national issue or election. I see no difference to non-football threads on city of culture, current affairs, economics etc, forum members decide themselves to post, read or ignore.

Exactly. It's just forcing views on people.
No politics or religion is a great rule and makes it a great board.

Much as I enjoy a political debate, I think it would potentially spoil the board somewhat and I favour keeping things as they are. Imagine Patty on a politics thread. Kin ell.

So far, I haven't seen an argument to convince me that we need to change from what we have.

I can't speak for him, but I'm 99.9% sure that OLM would prefer things to stay as they are, so as it stands, the default is no religion or politics, with exceptions for 'special' events.

I have been put off a number of times from posting due to the petty squabbling and arguing (Mainly Allams/Name change related). I think bring political discussions back would no doubt make it worse and put a number of people off posting.

Everything works the way it is why change it?

The dick waving is bad enough on Footy related threads, we've been just fine without politics/religion, other than the small handful who wet their knickers at being told this is not the place for it, and that should continue.

It would never be restricted to a single thread, it will end up being used in other, football/club related threads and it just has no place on here.

The Internets a big place, if you want to be a boring **** about politics/religion, fill your boots elsewhere.

Why do we currently have two threads on politics?

It's a conspiracy. Dutch & Lambo don't really hold the fort, they're just the puppets of the highly secret, board ruling, organisation known as "The Clique"

It's impossible to moderate political threads, that why we decided not to have them, if you want them you have to allow whatever political ideas people have and it's a really bad idea.

Yes, and if I wanted to waste time arguing with right wing lunatics I'd go back on CI. *

    * Yes I know they're a minority and most CI users are okay.

There's no reason why we couldn't have a civilised debate if it weren't for the ****ing Tory ****s on here.
