With all this manager merry-go-round nonsense bombarding us, I thought it would be time to remind us all of the BEAUTIFUL GAME When asked, Johan Cruyff (surely a candidate for the team himself) chose his first 11. Would this be yours, or how would it differ ? …and WHAT A FORWARD LINE ! http://www.skysports.com/football/n...ll-time-world-xi-pep-guardiola-makes-the-team PS mine would include a certain Irishman, and a destroyer by the name of Gentile (there's irony)
Banks was better than Yashin. Alberto was a right back and would'nt play in a 3. Guardiola ? he's having a laugh. Can't argue with Di Stefano, Charlton, Pele and Maradona. No all time 11 would be without Messi and Ronaldo.
Keeper: Banks Defence: Adams. Terry. Cole possibly? Can't think of a right back though.... Midfield: Messi, Scholes; C Ronaldo, Giggs Striker: Pele, Maradona
Yep agreed on this. People argue about the greatest of all time and the ability to compare generations, but Messi and Ronaldo are the greatest ever to have lived in my opinion.
Interesting that not a single 'modern day' player made Cruyff's team - perhaps some rose tinted glasses to his generation and those he would have grown up watching?
Bobby Moore had to be one of the best defenders ever. Pat Jennings for me was the worlds best certainly at the time. Gazza in Midfield and Pele arguably the best ever. Ronaldo and Messi as modern day for sure. Bale would be close too. I loved George Best but probably too much of a maverick type to be in this team.
he was only a maverick at the end of his, playing career, had he kept straight and narrow could easily of played another 4 years ..but yes in my team Banks defence is difficult because there is such a big difference in the attacking line ups that can be presented .. Armstrong
Always tricky these - especially if you want to avoid simply crowbarring players into positions they shouldn't. I'll go: Buffon Maldini Moore Beckenbauer Cruyff Cristiano Ronaldo Charlton Zidane Maradona Pele Messi
Thats a scary sight They would probably win every game 9-8 mine would be --------------------Banks --------Maldini---Moore---Beckenbauer --------------------Gentile ------Best----Pele--Charlton---Cruyff ----Maradona---Messi----DeStefano
When you look at the pool of players over such a long period of time you could probably pick a premiership of teams and get some amazing results!
George Best was definitely the most exciting footballer of my time on earth so far.. he inspired me as a young lad to want to play football and I did every single day as a child.. he has affected my life as football is still a very large part of who I am now.. If I could roll back time the first thing I would do is buy a pair of boots and play competitive football.
Well, I have totally enjoyed this, even though it is supremely frustrating when you think of the amazing players that didn't even make the bench. So How about a team of the 60s, 70s and so on ? Then we can suppose they played each other and see who would win Well we have to do something to alleviate the crushing and mindless boredom of International week….
I was about 8 when I got into football properly and George Best was at his prime and an icon even then. I used to marvel at his skills and later owned a pair of George Best boots that fitted like a glove. Guy had it all, talent, looks, girls and cars-You could only envy that- I remember a goal he scored, that wasn't given, though even at the time I thought it should have when Banks took a drop kick and Bestie snatched the ball away- Ref disallowed it, which was good as it was against England, but I remember being disappointed really. A classic was when he cheekily lobbed Pat Jennings, possibly one of the best ever, from the edge of the box and made him look ordinary
Sorry about that Got over excited ! --------------------Banks --------Maldini---Moore---Beckenbauer --------------------Gentile -----------Best----Pele-----Cruyff ----Maradona---Messi----DeStefano Bobby bites the dust
