It was raised this year to £225,000 but when the yearlings that are currently selling were conceived the breeders will have paid £100,000.

Of the 13 yearlings by him that have been sold so far this year their average price has been £876,569 and the median £575,001 so they're turning a good profit (stats from Racing Post).

225,000 is amazing. I wonder with all the success he's having on the track and sales ring, they'll bump his fee even higher in the near future?

It makes him the second most expensive sire in the world after Galileo who is listed as Private but the last figure I heard was around the €350,000 mark but that was a few years ago and may well be higher now.

They may well put Dubawi up again and there have been rumours they might even close his book to outside mares. Certainly around 80% of the mares that Galileo covers are owned be Coolmore or their partners.

We keep cross-posting! That would be the one and only Northern Dancer who hit the heights of $1,000,000 in the 1970s/early 80s. If you adjust for inflation now that is significantly higher.

In recent years Storm Cat made it up to $500,000 at his peak in the early 2000s but the most expensive stallion currently in America is Triple Crown winner American Pharoah at $200,000, a first season sire!

Ah, I may be wrong on the Northern Dancer fee. This is what Wikipedia says:

"With the success of his offspring, Northern Dancer's stud fee rose, slowly at first: from $10,000 (live foal) in 1965, to $15,000 (live foal) in 1969, to $25,000 (live foal) in 1971 to $35,000 ($10,000 of which was non-refundable) in 1975 to $50,000 (no guarantee) in 1978. His published fee, with no guarantee that a live foal would result, then started a rapid increase: $100,000 in 1980, $150,000 in 1981, $250,000 in 1982, $300,000 in 1983 and $500,000 in 1984. For his final years at stud (1985-1987), his breeding rights were privately negotiated,[16] with one season selling at auction for $1 million[42] — an amount four to five times that of his closest rivals."

Either way, I've just read that a million dollars in 1980 equates to over three million in today's terms.

Coolmore just went to 1,100,000gns for the Frankel half brother to Zoffany.

That's the second Frankel they've purchased this week, interesting as they bought none last year and only have one in training this year (San Remo).

Frankel's crop have done well, so I suppose it's no surprise that more are interested in his stock.

Oh I know, but considering they sold all bar one of the Frankel's they bred from his first crop (either in utero or later on) it's quite telling that they are making a point of buying back into them now. Glancing down the list of the mares he covered in 2014 (for this current crop of yearlings) Coolmore look to have 6 or 7 interests there too.

Peter Doyle just went to 2,100,000 for a full-sister to Saturday's Sun Chariot winner Alice Springs (441).

While I was out for lunch Lot 427 became joint top lop with Angus Gold of Shadwell signing for the son of Dubawi at 2,600,000gns.

Just got back from a quick trip up at the Sales, managed to watch the Frankel/Attraction colt sell for 1,600,000gns and was actually stood near Angus Gold as he was bidding - they often like to hide in amongst the crowd so as not to draw too much attention to themselves!

It's a different World. How nice it must be to have all that pocket money - without sacrificing health and happiness of course
