Milners been a lot better than I thought. I knew he'd do a stint as he is a 7/10 in any position you put him but he's been good. Remains to be seen if he can keep it up. I think both him and Clyne (in fact all modern full backs it seems) stand off their man which gives them room to cross. It seems players are more worried about getting tight and being beaten than trying to stop the cross. Watch someone like Neville and all he did for 15 years as a defender was show wingers down the line and block the cross for a corner or throw, perfect from a full back.
If you look at the games he has played in one or two have been big challenges like spurs and chelsea (willian) and some have been where he is allowed to play lw in effect. I think milner has helped a lot going forward as he is in effect only a left back when we are defending deep. He is lw the rest of the time. I honestly think hes done ok but has been caught a few times and not been really punished. I think theres still a frew questions on this. I do think at this point there are fewer threats in the box to cross to frankly, people expect that cross to be cleared most times.
He has performed a lot better than I expected as well. IMO - his positioning has been just as advanced as Moreno. Difference is, our midfield is functioning better and is providing more cover. Gini and Hendo have done a good job in that respect. Milner going forward has been really effective though. Really thought his lack of pace would hurt us but it's credit to him and the midfield. IBWT - Disagree on clyne, I think he's pretty good at stopping crosses.
There are a lot worse than clyne at stopping crosses though to be fair. Moreno is biggest culprit (not that picking on him). Don't get close, put hands behind back and half turn back and stick leg up is his usual attempt at stopping a cross. Needs to watch how other full backs do it o improve. Same for Milner.
Neither Migs or Karius to be blamed for any of the goals we conceded this season to be fair. If Klopp do not want Migs why did he signed another contract late last season?. Maybe goal keeper coach and Klopp know something we do not know. Dropping Migs people will always try to read meanings to it.
I blame Migs for all of them. Even the ones we conceeded with Karius on the field. On a more serious note: he is having a much better season this year I'm pleased to see. Everyone is.
5th October 2016 Klavan: Of course I'd hate to play against our attackers! Sam Williams @SamWilliams14 No team has scored more Premier League goals than Liverpool this season - and Ragnar Klavan has admitted he is glad he only has to mark his attacking team-mates in training. Jürgen Klopp’s side have netted 18 times in their seven top-flight games so far this term - the same total as league leaders Manchester City - with another eight goals coming in dominant EFL Cup victories over Burton Albion and Derby County. Arsenal and Leicester City both conceded on four occasions to Liverpool, while Hull City captain Curtis Davies said it was ‘hard to lay a glove on anyone’ after the Tigers were beaten 5-1 by a relentless, irresistible performance from the Reds at Anfield. And Klavan, who himself weighed in with a rare strike to set Liverpool on the way to their 3-0 win at Derby, appears to understand exactly where his fellow centre-back Davies is coming from. When asked whether he would hate to play against Klopp's in-form forwards, the Estonia captain told Liverpoolfc.com: “Of course. We have so much quality in front, but for me it is good to train against them every day - it helps my defending level.” Klavan, a summer signing from Augsburg, has made three Premier League appearances so far this season after spending the majority of his career in Germany and the Netherlands, and he feels he is becoming accustomed to the nuances of the English game. “It’s kind of more aggressive, a little bit more is allowed by the referees,” the No. 17 added. “It’s a little bit different from the Bundesliga. Those are just parts where you need to get used to it a little bit, so it took me some time and also in training, but slowly I am getting there. “With every league, there is something special about that league. England is, in my opinion, one of the best - maybe the best - leagues in the world.” please log in to view this image Play Now Watch Ragnar Klavan's interview in full with LFCTV GO After four consecutive league wins, Liverpool sit just two points adrift of Pep Guardiola’s table-topping City side during the second international break of the campaign. While feeling upbeat about the Reds’ strong start to the season, Klavan stressed that there is plenty of work still to do to make 2016-17 successful. “We have had a good start to the season, no doubt about it, but it’s going to be a long season,” the 30-year-old, who was speaking before last Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Swansea City, continued. “To pick out a [finishing] spot or place is hard to say. For us, I hope we take it one game at a time because every game is going to be important if you want to achieve something amazing.” http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/fir...course-i-d-hate-to-play-against-our-attackers
What do you reckon Mourhino will do for this game. Against the better teams. he used to send his team out to not lose and to nick a goal on the break. We have been decent until now but highly suspect at the back......especially when pressed at CB and deep lying CM where we are prone to costly errors.....does he press and allow space for our forward play....or does he sit back for the draw and try to nick one on the break.....tactics will be fascinating!
Unfair how? He hasn't turned up barring a goal against Leicester in a match where they were already 3-0 up? People will say hes playing as a CDM and he shouldn't be looked at doing loads but atm hes doing nothing. He has been given a free role in the midfield and doesn't create a lot of chances for others. If this is a case where he needs good players around him for him to be a great himself then he really isn't all that. I say the same about Hazard now tbh.
He'll look to frustrate I'm certain of that. If it goes wrong the Manc fans will not be happy, if they nick one it'll be a tactical genius at work.
Since he's moved further forward he has looked a lot better, still a work in progress though as are Utd at the moment. There are signs if them getting it together and playing well though. Hope we can put a dent in that on the 17th.
90 million shouldn't get you signs that hes 'getting better' though. It all boils down to his price. They have paid for a player who wont provide a massive amount of goals or assists and isn't great defensively and offensively. I just think due to the money they paid no should be thinking 'aw well in a year or two years time hes gonna be fantastic' you pay that money for instant success and its as simple as that.
