    Press release from Tattersalls:

Exceptional Catalogue for Europe’'s Premier Yearling Sale

The catalogue for Book 1 of the 2016 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, which takes place Tuesday 4th October - Thursday 6th October, is now online and can be viewed at www.tattersalls.com. The catalogue for Europe's premier yearling sale numbers 551 lots, all of which are eligible for the £25,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus.

The flagship Tattersalls sale has attracted a truly outstanding collection of the finest yearlings to be found anywhere in the world, including 17 yearlings from the second crop of the Champion racehorse FRANKEL who has made a sensational start to his stallion career.

In addition, the catalogue features own or half brothers and sisters to 50 Group 1 and Classic winners and 243 Group/Listed winners. Amongst the siblings to Classic and Group 1 winners are own or half brothers to 2015 and 2016 stars GALILEO GOLD, ORDER OF ST GEORGE, MARCEL and SIMPLE VERSE, as well as DANCING RAIN, HALFWAY TO HEAVEN, IMMORTAL VERSE, IZZI TOP, LETHAL FORCE, LILLIE LANGTRY, MOUNT NELSON, RECKLESS ABANDON, SPINNING QUEEN and ZOFFANY. The catalogue also features own or half sisters to Classic and Group 1 winners JACK HOBBS, JUST THE JUDGE, LEGATISSIMO, MECCA’S ANGEL, LUMIERE, RED CADEAUX, and SHALAA as well as to this year’'s Group 1 winners ALICE SPRINGS and HIGHLAND REEL.

Outstanding Group 1 and Classic winning mares with yearlings catalogued include proven Group and Listed producers ATTRACTION, CASUAL LOOK, MAJESTIC ROI, and PEERESS, as well as Classic/Group 1 winners CHACHAMAIDEE, FALLEN FOR YOU, I’'M A DREAMER, IZZI TOP, MUSIC SHOW, TEMIDA and WIZZ KID, all of whom have their first or second foals catalogued.

Nineteen of the current top 20 active sires standing in Britain and Ireland are well represented with the two phenomenal half brothers GALILEO and SEA THE STARS leading the way with 45 yearlings catalogued between them. Seven time Champion sire GALILEO has 21 yearlings catalogued including the own or half brothers/sisters to Classic/Group 1 winners ALICE SPRINGS, HIGHLAND REEL, JUST THE JUDGE and RECKLESS ABANDON.

DUBAWI, the sire of last year’'s sale topper, has an outstanding draft of 21 yearlings catalogued, his highest number at this sale since 2012. They include own or half brothers/sisters to MOUNT NELSON, IZZI TOP, VIVA PATACA, LAUGHING and JAKKALBERRY as well as sons/daughters of Group 1 winning mares FALLEN FOR YOU, I’M A DREAMER, ICON PROJECT and ZEE ZEE TOP.

Numerically, INVINCIBLE SPIRIT leads the way amongst the top 20 active sires with 30 yearlings catalogued, followed by SEA THE STARS and DARK ANGEL with 24 apiece, DUBAWI and SHAMARDAL with 21 each, KODIAC with 20, DUTCH ART with 19, EXCEED AND EXCEL with 18, IFFRAAJ with 14 and DANSILI with 13. In total the top 20 active sires have 278 yearlings catalogued between them with the current top 10 accounting for a massive 155 yearlings.

Devotees of first crop yearling sires will be spoilt for choice with 12 freshmen represented by a total of 101 yearlings led by the Champion duo of Derby winner CAMELOT and 2,000 Guineas winner DAWN APPROACH with 25 yearlings apiece. The Prix du Jockey Club winner INTELLO is represented by 15 yearlings whilst Juddmonte International winner DECLARATION OF WAR is next with 13 yearlings.

Overseas based sires traditionally play a prominent role at Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale and proven Group/Grade 1 USA based sires ARCH, BERNARDINI, CURLIN, EXCHANGE RATE, GIANT’'S CAUSEWAY, KITTEN’S JOY, LEMON DROP KID, MEDAGLIA D’ORO, SCAT DADDY, SPEIGHTSTOWN, TAPIT and WAR FRONT all feature prominently alongside top French & German-based sires DALAKHANI, KENDARGENT, MAKFI, MAXIOS and REDOUTE’S CHOICE.

The largest consignment comes from Highclere Stud with 29 yearlings, whilst The Castlebridge Consignment comes next with 24 yearlings. Following closely is Newsells Park Stud whose team of 23 yearlings includes the DANSILI half-brother to last year’s 2.1 million guineas sale-topper out of LOVEISALLYOUNEED.

Commenting on the catalogue for Book 1 of the 2016 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said:

“The catalogue for Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale is exceptional, even by its usual lofty standards. Whilst it remains the leading source of European Classic winners, the introduction of the £25,000 Tattersalls October ‘Book 1 Bonus’ has added an extra dimension and captured the imagination of owners and trainers. The scheme has already seen fifteen winners, several of which have covered their purchase price by winning the bonus whilst others have won enough prizemoney to cover at least a year of training fees. Europe’s premier yearling sale has all the ingredients to attract buyers at every level of the market and we look forward to welcoming the usual global audience to Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.”

Joe Foley's comment after signing for Lot 12 on behalf of Clipper Logisitics was "You can never have too many Frankels!"

3 other Frankel's to sell today: Lot 27, Lot 134 and Lot 175.

In competition for Top Lot honours are 7 Galileo's (first to sell will be Lot 41), 10 Dubawi's (Lot 39 the first to go) and 7 Sea the Star's, the first of which (Lot 14) made 120,000gns.

Book One is a "Select Sale" in it's own right so there is no real ordering to the lots on offer other than arranging them in a form of alphabetical order and avoiding clashes for the sellers. To get into this sale the horses will have been inspected several times from a physical point of view and their pedigrees thoroughly gone over.

Yikes! they definitely thought something of that one!

(Edited as originally the Tattersalls website was showing Lot 38 as the 2.6million which baffled me!)

76 is an interesting opportunity to buy into a Ballymacoll family. Peter Reynolds (stud manager) is reported as saying they still retain the dam so wanted to inject a bit of cash back into the stud while they wait for it to be sold.

Lot 39 is the highest priced yearling sold anywhere in the world this year and the third most expensive yearling sold at Tattersalls in the last 15 years.

A great 15 minutes for broodmare Galicuix (dam of Galileo Gold), her yearling colt by Champs Elysees sells for 220,000gns at Tattersalls (Lot 71) and her 2yo daughter (a full sister to Galileo Gold) breaks her maiden at Leicester!
