Alex Zanardi is an example to not just the readers of this forum but the whole of humanity.

I have spent the evening talking about him. Yeah, really.

He is one of the most inspirational examples – indeed, he has become both a hero and an icon – for anyone willing to look at the broader perspectives on life and humanity.

Such is his humility, I know he does not wish to read such an accolade. But it is the truth. Zanardi is perhaps THE most outstanding sportsman (stroke human being!?) in living memory.

There must be others, but right now I can think of few who even come close.
What a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful guy…

    Wow, interesting.

I wonder if Formula E might take off and become the roadcar technology formula and allow F1 to become a proper racing Formula again?

    We can all but dream!

It was the unreliability that made different race winners back then. Aside from the final lap, there wasn't much racing action actually going on.

True. But at the time it Was exciting, and innovative. And what a season overall. Had everything from tragedy to heroism.

A lot of romancing is done on how the cars look and sound in the past, as well as some of the great circuits they raced on.

But even then, the regs were changing constantly because of dominance it to spice up the on track racing. F1 really hasn't changed that much in reality!

What year / race was it that Jv led with a whole train of cars behind him? They caught him in the corners, but he blew them away on the straight......

It was the era of innovation. The cars at least did look very different to each other as everyone had some strange ideas about how to make the cars faster by going against normal design conventions. Not many of them worked mind you, but it did through up some odd looking beasts!

Autosport reporting Ron Dennis will leave as head of Mclaren F1 team and automotive technologies, will not have his contract renewed. End of an era if true, but I think he should have gone a while ago. Wonder if this is anything to do with Apple? Think he is still on the Car side.

BBC listing Whitmarsh on the list of names to replace him... That would be the highlight of the year. Hilarious.
