    I think you can trace most of society's current ills to the decline in standards of footwear. How do you expect a nation clad in trainers to stand up and be counted in times of crisis? Properly polished lace up shoes or boots for the working day, desert boots or loafers for recreational purposes.

    Shoes should NEVER be worn without socks. It is the height of inappropriateness and offenders should be shot on site or at least given a 'tsk tsk' and a stern look. The only acceptable occasion for no socks is with sandals and, at a pinch, trainers but only when accompanied by other sportswear during a sporting activity.
