I think he's worth persevering with yet. I trust Claude to make the right decisions, if he feels Redmond is suited to thee ST role, that's enough for me. Just needs to improve his finishing.
I think Redmond may talk himself into trouble one day. He seems a fun lad to have round the place, but prone to be argumentative on the pitch.
Not coming down on either side here, but Beefy hasn't stated (in this thread) anything other than we need another striker (and that the Henry comparisons should stop). Don't think anyone could argue with either of those statements.
Have you seen our more recent premier league games? Tadic has been hugging the touch line for large spells and we've benefitted from him playing outwide more. The three forward players are regularly swapping position to keep giving the opposition defenders something to think about and the flexibility of Puels approach is starting to bare fruit. Redmond as a striker is not strictly accurate. We're playing three forward players and they're all having to produce a more all round game. Also worth noting that our senior/established players have taken a while to come to terms with how Claude wants to play. Redmond has had to do that as well as learn a new role/position and adapt to a new club and the pressure that can bring. He has made a solid start to his saints career(in short)
He took a shot, and Against Swansea. Nathan's taken a shot when Shane was clear across the goal. Shane just shouted and let Nathan know he was there. This was the reaction. It's the contempt I worry about. I expect a "sorry", "oh s**t" or "didn't see you" not a "f*** off". please log in to view this image Vin
I hadn't seen this post Beefy, but in the interest of not upsetting Tom.... I don't think Redmond will turn out like Henry, however I wonder how many people said Henry would never work out as a striker in his early days? He didn't do it over night. Henry had time at Monaco and Juventus being tried there before he even got to Arsenal and then it took Wenger a little time to convert him to a striker. I'd also throw in Theo Walcott here .... All I'm saying is that he has been here for 10 games, not starting all of those either, so in time he may well convert to a striker. Too early to write that off now, even though as I started here by saying that I don't think he'll be like Henry was. Sometimes things take a few years. Ask Teddy Sheringham, Rickie Lambert. We are football fans and even though lots of us think we have great footballing knowledge (none more so than me), we are very often proved not to be quite as knowledgeable as some of these top Professional coaches. Ps. Tom, I hope this is ok. Apologies that I didn't comment on Beefy's post too. Yours was the first one I saw as I clicked "last post" and read that first, which happened to be yours.
At the moment we have to accept NR as a striker as thets where he is being played. We have to play him there because we are so short of alternatives and the pressure is building up because we have so few players other than Charlie who can score. Other than his gobbing off at other players (needs a slap from a senior player) the biggest issue I have with him is that a regularly passes and then stands still to admire his work instead of sprinting into space in the penalty box ready for a return ball/cross
The real irony for me is that none of our forward players play as a CF, because we are fluid with our movement. It's different to having a Pelle because it is a different system.
I'm just saying that's the case at the moment. Also, i'm of the opinion that any new player should be given at least half a season before we pass a judgement, so I'm not that bothered that he's not scoring every match.
Yes. For sure Tadic hugs the touchline. Without the ball Austin is regularly forced to track back as a winger as all three rotate, have you not seen that..? I know they regularly swap positions, I explicitly stated this in an earlier post.
It seems to me to be a very English trait. I'm not saying that other nationalities don't berate the referee, but English players, especially the younger crop, are wild for it. Dele Ali is the same, you can't tackle him without him squaring up to you, Wilshere, Vardy, Grealish. It's not befitting of a team like ours and Redmond is wild for it.
Surprised to read about this petulance he has displayed, I do not recall seeing that from him during his time as CR. Am wondering if he is having an issue with fitting in on the training ground or a certain few players.
He seems a cheery soul on the training ground and when being photographed with the team....he is the one always playing to the camera....so he seems happy. Perhaps he gets frustrated when playing and there is also an element of fans being used to goody two shoes at Saints. We aren't used to players sounding off at all, so perhaps we are being harsh, but (in the modern climate) I expect him to talk himself into a couple of cards.
I suspect he's getting frustrated because he's not adapting to his new position as well as he wanted/hoped. Sometimes I get the feeling that he's trying too hard. I can easily imagine frustration spilling over into poor decisions and reactions.
