How the hell did they enter into that in 1998 ? hehe. going through me rothman's book. I know we have never played in the UEFA cup, but thought they had never played in the cup winners cup as it started in 1960 !.
Former Manchester United and Arsenal striker David Herd has died aged 82. The Scot made 265 appearances for United and scored 145 goals, including two in their 1963 FA Cup final win over Leicester - their first major trophy after the Munich air disaster in 1958. He had netted for Arsenal in the last league match United played before the plane crash, which killed 23 on board. ADVERTISEMENT Herd, who won five international caps, started his career at Stockport and also played for Stoke and Waterford. The son of former Manchester City forward Alec Herd, he made his senior debut for Arsenal in 1954 and scored 99 goals in 166 appearances for the Gunners. After joining United in 1961, he scored in his first appearances for the club in the FA Cup, League Cup and all three European club competitions, forming a formidable partnership with compatriot Denis Law. He won the league title twice while at Old Trafford but was not selected for United's European Cup final victory over Benfica in 1968. After retiring as a player, Herd was briefly manager at Lincoln City.
I think i may have asked about this fella before. 1979–1981 Sunderland 25 (11) Can i hell remember him.
For the record, Newcastle have never qualified for Europe by actually winning something, unless you call that micky mouse inter cities fairs cup as a trophy..
Not true buddy - be rather impressed if you knew what though... We 'won' the inter-toto cup to qualify for the Uefa cup in 2004(ish). They actually brought the trophy onto the pitch, was more than a touch pathetic and they looked rightly embarrassed. Up until that point I don't think it had occurred to anyone that there was an actual cup for the inter-toto.
Pop robson, now there was a REAL striker a bit like Bobby Charlton, give me him in our team now and you can keep Pogba. Just to add that Newcastle got into the UEFA cup when they got to the f a cup semi one year, due to Man u, Arsenal virtually guaranteed a champions league place and Spurs won the league cup, I would not mind a run in Europe one season.
