I just think everyone should cut him some slack and get behind the lad. If he proves to be lazy and uninterested we can send him back, if he recaptures his form we will hopefully have an option to buy and we could have a star on our hands, but we must give him a chance!

I'm a huge Ben Arfa fan, he really does have obvious skill and class, and I couldn't be happier with the positive, committed attitude he's shown since pulling on the black and white. But I hardly missed a Marseille game the last two seasons, and he really did have a lousy attitude, his whole time at the club. He talked **** about Lyon after forcing his transfer, hated coming off the bench (often refusing to warm up mid match), fought with teammates and manager, I was afraid he'd be another petulent young footballer to have a bad attitude ruin his potential - but I'm not worrying about that anymore.

Judging by the comments here, he has a lot to do to win us over. He certainly wont get by on his past reputation. Come on then Ireland over to you, prove your critics wrong...

When will he even play? Someone said he's currently injured, Ben Arfa and Tiote are back soon, no way does Ireland get in our midfield with our regular starting 5 fit.

I just want to reiterate though, I love HBA, he'd just been making it hard to the past couple years. I couldn't be more excited to see him back in action in the coming months!

As for Ireland, we don't have a choice but to give him the benefit of the doubt (if it does go through) and hope the squad's great attitude rubs off on him and he resurrects his stuttering career.

    I'd play:

    Barton----------Tiote----------Nolan----------Jonas

    -------------------Ben Arfa
    --------------------------Carroll

Another thing I dont get is, now Guthrie is looking good again, he will now undoubtedly be dropped for Ireland in the desperate hope that he stops playing so **** (as he has done all season).

He certainly shouldn't walk into our team, wait for him to start blasting them in for the reserves then give him a place on the bench, that should remind him of his place.

Loan with intent to buy, we think. But it could be that they get first option if he plays well.

Give him a chance I say. I can't believe people are on his back when he hasnt even played a game for the club.
I take it you wont celebrate if he scores???
Its a loan deal so if he is **** we send him back or dont play him and if he sets the
world alight then hopefully we have a 'option to buy' in the contract.

I cant comment on his wages as I dont know what he's getting here or what percentage we are paying?

Wages are the stumbling block, he gets between 60-70k a week and Villa want us to pay 100%

Then someone must have made a compromise, and I can't imagine that being Mike Ashley. Surely Ireland can turn around and say he wants less to force through the move, meaning that the clubs might not need to pay the full £60-70k between them/

I thought he was on £75k, but I'm probably wrong. Our wage cap is £50k, so either he's going to have to show his desire to play for us by taking a wage cut or Villa are going to have to absorb the difference. He's certainly not worth breaking the wage structure for.

Especially as he isnt even a certain starter. If he flops we dont have to buy him but we do still waste loads of money on his wages for the rest of the season..
