Nope, most neutrals have said the same even on this forum, and their team's defences are much better than Liverpool's <ok>

The only team in this league with a better defence than us is Tottenham

They aren't guidelines. They are the rules. Granted a lot of interpretation and 'in the refs opinion' but something's are black and white in the law book.

Like me I said, things like a foul or handball can be interpreted either way and it's why video ref would be hard as what one person thinks is a foul another things differently, but there is clear definition for certain things and the referee should make those decisions correctly... like knowing to disallow a goal when it hits a beach ball for example.
You just hit the nail on the head, some are plain and defined rules, others are open to interpretation and common sense, therefore many of them are guidelines <doh>

That is why them not knowing rules is infruiating and the ones open to interpretation we should be given an explanation of what they saw. So we can understand better. Refereeing is hard, and at the speed which the game is played now they have a tough job. Thats why help would be great but if not going to accept help at least explain what they see and why the are giving decisions.
It is the lack of transparency that gets me annoyed.
I would wager my house if i was a betting man that if you goto most fans they would say it is the lack of consistency that irks them the most.
How often have you found yourself saying, if that had happened in the centre that would have been a free kick only for ten seconds later to find that to be the case.
I think you are trying to wum, when you persist with your - go on then list them, line of argument. A sort of faux trying to take the high road.
Who was the ref in the world cup final between holland and spain, you are not telling me that hearing what the ref was seeing would not have been interesting?
What about when refs send off the wrong players.
What about when they book someone three times.
Just sayin they need help.

And yet 10 teams have conceded fewer goals

Putting more men behind the ball just means you are more defensive, not a better defence

If you do it at the cost of a worse GD I don't care

Only Spurs, Arsenal and City have a better GD

City have shipped goals to all of the bottom 5 teams, and 3 to Celtic. Their defence is garbage currently being papered over by flat track bullying [HASHTAG]#nomarks[/HASHTAG]

Arsenal have done ok but have no depth to their squad so the only one I'm prepared to accept as better is Spurs

And I am just saying they are human. Years ago the refs word was law and no one questioned his decision because he was closer than any supporter to the action and he knew the rules.
Now, we can all do a better job than them because we have 40 angle, close up, slomo replays as many times as we like to make a call. The game is live, in real time and viewed by the ref from one position (given the speed of the game I think they do well with positioning), if you want a computerised perfect game, go play FIFA because reality just isn't for you.

How many defences have let 10 man behind the ball Burnley put two past them?

You do realise GD does not equate to a good defence alone, the goals for comes onto that and I am assured by one of your own you score "enough" goals :emoticon-0100-smile

Refs word still is law (now sir alex has retired:emoticon-0140-rofl: sorry but not that sorry).
Refs always got questioned by those who were at the ground, but nothing to back them up. As you say enough technology around now.
The game needs to be as correct as it can be as the game is now a business, and peoples livelihoods are in the balance.
As i have said a few times now, personally i think we should get to listen to why a decision is made. So when a ref awards a pen against sheff utd in the 88 min for what to the rest of the world looks like a dive by Stevie G wecan understand what he saw that made him think it was a pen.
If you are never held accountable for decisions you will just get blasé about them.

How many teams with a £90m CDM let Watford put three past them?

All of them, TBF.

<laugh> <ok>

What do you suggest, video refs who can press a button 10/20/30 seconds after an incident when they have seen a replay or two?

Refs are accountable, they are just not accountable to you/me, quite often a ref will be demoted for a few games after an obvious bad decision, but rarely if his mistake has been discovered under a microscope, he is human after all.

I won't compare other teams but do you honestly think Liverpool have a better defensive setup than Cech, Bellerin, Koscielny, Mustafi, Monreal? Backups of Jenkinson, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Gabriel, Holding, Gibbs (not including players on loan e.g. chambers). Cech is a better GK than you have, Koscielny is better than any of your CBs, Mustafi has yet to concede in his four PL games alongside Kosc and seems a quality player, Bellerin is rumoured to be wanted by City and Barca and has been very good for us and Monreal is a very solid LB. with a backup of a World Cup winning CB and a selection of other defenders who have performed in the EPL or La Liga and international stage?

I honestly wouldn't take any of your back 5 to replace any of ours.

And if we are including DM players then we have Coquelin, Xhaka and El Neny who can all play the position. Losing Coquelin last season coincided with us being comfortably top of the league to dropping away from the race so I'd imagine he is pretty good at what he does. Xhaka was in the bundesliga team of the year as a DM and performed well at the euros and has impressed for us so far and El Neny is a worthy backup with loads of energy.

Aren't most Liverpool fans saying your defence is the problem area of your squad?

You haven't come across Astro before I take it <laugh>

Cech is garbage, throws the ball into his own net every other game. Which of those players you list is supposed to be your backup GK?

We have the best RB and LB in the league, although not much depth there with current injuries.

I wouldn't take any of your back 5 either (Koscielny might get on the bench for us).

Sanchez. Cazorla. Koscielny. If you had a manager with ambition who was ruthless everyone else in your squad would have been dumped a long time ago (not counted new signings yet).
